• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I bought a new Antron 99 antenna and I can't get it to work. It is mounted on a 16' pole that is well grounded. I am using a 50' RG-58 coax. I bought a new SWR/PW meter from Amazon. I tried checking the SWR on a working CB. And in Forward, the needle does not move. Turning the adjust knob does nothing. So of course in Reverse, there is no movement on the swr needle either. I tested the swr meter on a friend's mobile and it worked fine. I checked the cable for open or shorts and the cable test fine. But to be sure (since it came pre-made with cheaper connectors), I replaced the connectors with good quality ones that are soldered well. And the cable still test great. But I cannot get no reading from the Antron! I tried various mobile units with a bench power supply and the same results on all cb units. The interesting thing is, if I put the PL259 connector anode into the CB jack, just the anode, I get reception. As soon as I screw it on (or touch the grounds together to screw it on), the reception dies to dead quite.

You likely have an internal short somewhere in the antenna. I am NOT a fan of the A99. I'd personally buy an aluminum Sirio 5/8 wave ground plane over an A99 any day, but when the A99 works, it's okay.

I'd return the A99 and either exchange it for a new A99, or I'd get a Sirio GPE 27 5/8, or the Sirio Starduster M400.

Run the CB into a 50 OHm Dummy load and see if your even transmitting ! Sounds to me like you no Output Power !
Seeing your only running Legal power You can make a 50 ohm load with multiple resistors in series or Parallel using an ohm meter.
After you see the radio is running move the load to the end of the coax - see if your problem is there.
Sounds like your receiving...

Agree with the dummy load idea. Screw a dummy load on to the SWR meter where the antenna goes.... then check the SET adjustment. If you aren't getting deflection at that point.. the radio is not transmitting.
