There is no scanner currently on the market that will let you listen to NRPS.

I know that the London, Ontario system of the late 90's was encripted, and aside from finding a dealer to sell you the same radio as the system was using, and programming it for you, you were out of luck. (They would just disapble the transimt in the radio) Unless you know of a good shop that can do this, you would remain out of luck.

My best advice is to find an antenna festooned tow truck in the are and ask them what they have or if it is possible to get the Niagara police.. they seem to know if it is possible, even though it may be too costly for the average scanning enthusiast.

Ok, perhaps you can find a radio capable of unencrypting NRPS...but you still need the software keys that set the parameters for the encryption. It shouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that these are guarded tightly.

Considering what us in the news media can often go through with the NRPS at times you can rest assured that they're going to be pretty unhappy if there's members of the public scooting around with a radio that can listen in on their secure communications.

Guys, you can forget about listening in on any system with decent encryption these days.

Niagara Region's system will not be easily broken. It will require a trip to the NRPS radio shop where they will program your radio and load the appropriate encryption key.

The odds of guessing the key are probably the same as someone in the NRPS shop programming your radio for you.

I agree fully with your thoughts, its just that the London police system triggered in my mind. I also believe it would be costly to get your hands on a radio, and from my recollection the leak of the london info came via an already programmed radio...

I guess as an example you need a police officer and a radio tech on your side, who has the equipment to interagate the radio without knocking it out of service... I think my job would be more important than a scanner enthusiasts hobby.

Personally I am waiting patiently for Durham police to give up on the Mike/IDEN system...

That won't even work these days.

Encryption keys are a one way thing. You can load them into a radio but you can't pull them back out.

You would need the keyloader to load your radio. Most keyloaders are very securely guarded for this very reason.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but things are encrypted for a reason If you want to listen to them that bad, get yourself a job as a cop.
