I'm getting ready to go back to work, (I'll be in Chicago every day, mostly on the south side) and I'm wanting to get my scanner updated.

Any sugestions for "must have" frequencies for my private bank?

Is there alot of action on the Chicago Public Safety / Services System?

Any others that you think I should definately have in there?

I'll be in the area of 130th and I-94 most early mornings.
And all over the ChicagoLand area during the days.

Any sugestions appreciated...

The CPD TRS is gonna be a crucial system to have in your radio if you're going to be spending much time in Chicago. Its a simple /\/\ Type 2 system to program but listening and keeping track of all the action can get a bit tricky during busy times. This system is really hot or cold..completely dead or 6 unrelated, action-packed talkgroups to pay attention to.

I see there is a ton of talk groups on that system.

Are there any hot ones to program in right away, before doing the "search and enter" thing?

130th and the Dan Ryan!!!!! Bring a gun not a scanner!

LOL, yeah I know what you mean. I am up there usually most mornings between 4-6 AM, I load acid at a couple different chemical plants right there in that area, and get out quickly!

I've been listening to the conventional freqs. in that area for quite some time now. It's amazing what all goes on around there in the wee hours of the morning.

Now that I'm finally getting the hang of programming trunk systems, I'm looking foreward to seeing what I can hear on them.

so chicago went trunk? I used to have them programed in on my pro-2044, but they were so busy I never heard anything where I live,so I just deleted them.

I can imagine, I used to go in that area quite a bit, I used to see some wild stuff, if the cops were smart they should get a plain old mack truck and go in these areas, it's amazing what you see when "they" think there are no cops around.

Good luck, and be safe. sorry I can't help you with any freqs. did you check the RRDatabase?(dumb question)

The Chicago Police trunked system serves tactical units (surveillance, stings, tails), detectives during undercover investigations, internal affairs, the police boats, mayoral and dignitary protection, alarm repair, and various task forces. Regular 'squad' dispatching is still on the conventional systems (460.xx zones and areawide).

For a scanner listener in range of thus system, this is what radio monitoring is all about. Many times, I've been on the edge of my seat, up-too-late, and taking notes while listening in on this great system.
PS: traffic is seldom encrypted.

I hear that! I've been on the edge of my seat just listening to the 460.xxx stuff many a times.

Can't wait to try out the trunk systems there this week.
