What would blue tooth do for a scanner? Sorry, I don't know much about phones. :)

I am sorry but I cannot add in Orb any of the links on the page you directed me to.
I am not experienced enough with Orb to say why.

Some scanner links load directly into Orb and some don't.

But check Orb out, it is truly amazing.
It is sort of like "go to my PC" for all your media.
You can access any media that you enter into Orb from any computer and (I would think)
any internet ready cell phone (but I only own an IPhone, so I can't speak for any other cell phone).

Bluetooth would do the same for scanners as cellphones.. Eliminate a wire for the earphone...

And as far as why buy one of these instead of a scanner.. well, you're really comparing apples to computers there.. Not even in the same class..

Could you try http://www.remotehams.com and see if your iPhone works there..

I've followed your links, and read reams of howto stuff in therm, and still don't think what you've done would work for me.

Thanks...

Gene

Gene, this will work in Orb. I am listening to one of the remotehams sites right now on my ipod touch through Orb. AFAIK, all of the remotehams audio links can be accessed through MMS (Windows Media Player). Copy that link (mms:...) into Orb as per the instructions mentioned in the forum linked to previously in this thread and it'll work.

One thing I have noticed with the Orb set-up in a marked increase in latency, the delay between reality and when you actually catch-up with reality. You can have multiple websites open in the ipod, so you can use one to listen and one to control; however, this is not so simple. In the ipod you actually have to stop listening to the stream, then switch over to the other open browser to control the radio. Then start up the stream again; far from user friendly, but can be done. This may also further exacerbate the latency issue.

Thanks Bob! Just tried it out, and although it's not real smooth running the original stream server (Unreal) and Orb on the same computer.. it did work...

I'm not too worried about the multiple windows, but it can get tiresome.

Thanks again!

Yep, I'm using this method and it works great! Nothing like being able to monitor a system on the other side of the country while mobile :) Makes my 30+ minute commute go much faster. There's also a feed for a UHF CB repeater in Australia that is pretty funny to listen to sometimes -- definitely not family friendly, but funny nonetheless.
