I have 7 years of IT experience under my belt, mostly as a Desktop Support Tech and some network administration. In my current role, I don't do much with Windows Server except for some basic AD changes.

I'm ready to put some certifications on my resume and would like to start with the MCSA. The problem is, I am overwhelmed trying to find study material! Every single book I've found on Amazon (even the official Microsoft Publications) are full of reviews saying "Not enough material in the book to help you pass!" or "Book is filled with errors and misprints." I've searched blogs online but none have suggested any self paced study materials, most suggest taking a class.

I am uber smart in the computer world, so I don't feel that I would benefit from spending the money on a class... All I need is a really good study book, and some time spent on a Windows Server VM for practice, and I *think* I could learn what I need to for the exams.

Is there anyone here on RR that has taken the MCSA (2008 or 2012) exams (70-410, 70-411, and 70-412)? If so, what study material did you use to pass the exam?

Thanks!

I'm effected by the new 8570 implementation so i've been knocking out certs over the last year. I've been an IT Specialist for over 10 years. I was originally trained by the DOD under the old WGM/CSA programs. just finished CompTIA Security+ BootCamp last week. The CompTIA dumps were pretty helpful. There is a sight that charges $50 but you get access to plenty of material. I finished A+ last year and looking at Network+ in a month or too. As far as MCSE, I probably won't pursue them unless I leave the field I'm currently in.

wasnt MCSE dumped for a new title recently? IIRC was told that by a COMPTia associate themselves.............. might be wrong, but thats what my memory tells me

from what i hear, that BootCamp is pretty good, considering it myself for full networking experience
