That is what I was afraid off. I will buy another at 299 but I can't justify 399.

I don't understand why any taxpayer, short of a last minute change in their tax situation, would ever put themselves in a position to get a refund.

That is the same way I feel about it. They had it on sale for Nearly Two Straight Months at $400, and on Two Separate Occassions, both lasting a Week or More, for $300. With that mentioned, and considering the state of our Economy right now, how in the world does RS justify a $500 Price-Tage? I honestly find it absurd. (I still have love for RS though).

What RS did with that sale of $299 was show the world exactly what an enormous profit mark up they get at the regular price. Once you reveal that, almost no one will be willing to buy it at the regular price. I am sure that even at the $299 price they are making some profit....I bought my 106 at that price. It may not happen again for a while, but I will wait to get my 107. I have a digital radio already, I can wait.....

With the economy in a downturn and RS having to probably place a rather large initial order for the scanners and the fact that alot of area's are migrating over to digital, they were feeling the market out for a response. Now they might just be sitting back to see what Uniden is going to do with their new releases, and the next sale may be dependent on that. I'm sure a lot of people are out there waiting to see what will happen with the prices.

Im still confused about the $299 sale when it was barely out (and they hadnt cleared all the 96's / 2096's yet).
As you can see its hard for some (not all) people to even spend $399 on them (if that sale comes back).
If they were going to do the $299 sale id have said the best time would be right as the new Uniden Scanners came out... so anybody wishing to purchase the Uniden might be like wow $299 maybe ill get that one instead.
But thats my opinion, Radio Shack im sure knows a lot more about Marketing hen I do.

Maybe they had a rash of bad ones, so they put them on a super sale to dump them?
