Any news on rebanding in Athens-Clarke or UGA?

Just wondering how much longer my PRO-2067 and Pro-92 are going to be viable for the trunked systems in Athens.

ACC is broke, I see no future plans on going digital there. UGA is also broke and is making huge budget cuts.

Yeah I don't think Athens-Clarke is going much of anywhere. They have what like a 6 channel system? You don't even need a trunk tracker. I monitor them on my Yaesu FT-60 all the time. As long as you lock out the control channel (which changes once a day or so), it's easy to follow their conversations. Seems like PD has the most chatter of anyone on there.

I have to agree with that last post though. I think Athens-Clarke is probably broke. A lot of agencies are right now. Oh well....just don't invest in Motorola stock anytime soon. By the way, is the UGA TRS even worth listening to?

UGA has a pretty busy system during the day with all the physical plant and buses and what not.

The PD traffic is not very interesting unless there is some kind of major incident. Late night they deal with all the drunks/DUI, fights, kids who drank to much and need EMS, etc.

On game day however nearly every PD talk group is non stop traffic with all the outside agencies.

ACC and UGA are broke. UGA is laying off staff and faculty left and right, hiring freeze the whole nine yards.

I can only imagine what the UGA campus cops have to put up with sometimes. College kids are a handful. I know, I work part-time as a server in a bar. Bunch of smart a$$ little know-it-alls who can't hold their liquor and usually don't tip very well. Thankfully we have a Gwinnett cop on Fridays and Saturdays to keep the drunks inline.

I probably will program the UGA TRS in my radio just to hear all the shenanigans. Better yet, I should really just splurge and get an 800 Astro Saber III so I can listen in 'style'....at least to all the digital and analog TRS stuff that's still in the clear.

Athens has over 60 bars near campus, nearly all patrons are underage fake ID toting UGA students. The police have their hands full every night downtown. If you want drugs and booze, downtown Athens is the place to be. Theres almost nothing that cant be found there, and best of all its all just 2 blocks south of the most violent public housing complex in NE Georgia. Shots fires every night, murders every year, open air drug markets, etc. Athens is not a safe place.
