I am not sure if this has been asked before, but I am curious to see how many of you guys and girls still use or carry a CB in your cars / base unit at home? Back in the 80's and early 90's I was really into it myself, had alot of contacts etc, then with the boom of the cell phone, CB pretty much went quiet except for the occasional trucker on CH19.

What I have noticed is that now CB is actually starting to gain a SMALL foothold again, since hardly anyone is using it, most of the channels are clear and easy to talk on now. You still get the yaaahoo's down south with monster wattage talking trash on CH6, but thats it.

So I guess my question is....does anyone here use it...I MAY be able to put an Antron 99 antenna on the roof if I thought it was going to go anywhere....

As a side note, every year I am in Poland for a month visiting my wifes father etc....EVERY second car there is CB equipped...they are going through what we went through in the 70's and 80's. Even regular stores there, say the equivalent to WalMart, FutureShop, BestBuy, ALL carry a huge selection of radio's + antenna's!

You can monitor the CB band and talk when you hear someone. That's how I started a home channel in town back in the 90's. If there are others, they will begin to gravitate to your channel. You could also get a ham license.

I agree get a ham license when I looked at both the ham radio and cb I find that I can make more contacts then cb and you will have access to a lot more bands instead of the one band that cb uses

I cut my radio teeth on CB in the 80's. Got my ham licence in the 90's but I still keep a CB radio in the car for those road trips on the highway. I find it much more useful than the ham radio for things like road conditions and radar traps. The only thing I hate is the colourful language but not much I can do besides turn the volume down.

Spend the extra few bucks and get the Antron 2000. Also get the ground plane kit. Lots of 'em on Ebay.

Or how about this:

For those that are either still into it, or are nostalgic about it, or want a good base antenna for anywhere from 10-12 metres, Hy Gain (now owned by MFJ) have reintroduced their 5/8 wave Penetrator.

Hy-Gain

Also a couple more classics being reproduced here:

New Starduster M400 Base Station CB Ham 10 Meter Antenna M-400 18' 1000 watt 7dB | eBay

NEW Astro Plane ALPHA Base Antenna-H&Y Electronics

I wish they would remake the Super Scanner from Antenna Specialists.
