My god, they are going for $250 up to $400 for basic kits. I can buy a beelink or Gmetech mini PC for less money with better specs and win 11. Has the Pi foundation lost their minds? I know you can do some neat things with them, but just a few years ago a Pi4 would only set you back $50.
Anybody looked at the price of a Raspberry Pi5 5?

Yes it's definitely sticker shock. From the few articles I read, the Pi distributors blame hardware costs, memory chip costs, AI buying up everything in sight, you name it. Believe what you wish. Yes there are many mini PC's with better specs at lower prices. Definitely won't be buying any Pi's at the current prices.

My 1st PC in 1984 Ram was $100 a Meg. My 1st 10 Meg Harddrive was $300 plus controller card.

When I bought a pair of RPi5 18 months ago they where $70 each.
They have dual display output and have WiFi and probably all things a PC can do and seems powerful enough when running a Linux OS and using it with a desktop screen and some Linux applications. They are sensitive to 5 volt power drops and then goes down in CPU speed, so will need a good short power cable and/or a power supply that preferable goes a little higher than 5,0 volt.

Good Lord! Here's hoping they come down drastically - I'm going to need five of them for a project I'm working on (and sixteen Pi Zero, but lsat time I checked they're still around ten bucks a copy. . .)
Ya I noticed most of them have not come back down since covid. I thought it would be a temporary thing but appears not. I've switched alot of my stuff to the beelink and NUC for that reason. Really only need a pi for my ADS now.
Actually Raspberry Pi never raised prices during Covid. They WERE very hard to get, and you had people 'scalping' them for ridiculous mark-ups on Amazon and elsewhere. But the authorized resellers did not do that ... they just had very limited supplies that would sell out immediately. There was even a website where you could go and see which resellers had any. I would sign up for in-stock notifications and try to buy one (you were limited to one) when I could. Several times they were already sold out by the time I went to the retailer's site to check.
You can thank AI for the recent huge price increases. Now it's memory chips that are scarce and expensive.
We just purchased some equipment at work and are looking at a delivery date that is months away because of the memory shortage. But it's OK. Now folks can ask their favorite "AI" and post garbage answers on RR.
But that isn't any fun ranting about "greedy" manufacturers without any background or facts, is it?
I have read your reply multiple times and not seen anywhere he mentioned manufacturers. I see were resellers were scalping but not the manufactures.

If someone wants to believe that Raspberry Pi (and countless other manufacturers) are jacking up prices because they are greedy and are using AI as an excuse, I'm sure that article won't change your mind. Personally I'm not that cynical. I *am*, however, glad I bought several Pi 5s back when they first came out!

I'm just patiently waiting for ARM options from Beelink. Some of their designs would cook with a hex or octa core ARM CPU. Part of the reason I've just been thinking about packing in the x86 homelab (which uses RHEL, Docker on a 6 AMD processor) for a Mac running Podman. Much more energy efficient at least.
