Anybody use Windows Media Encoder to Live Feed your scanner? I'm trying to figure the code out to put on my website (www.adynamitedj.com) to get it started. I thought I had it because i was able to go to my website and listen but nobody else can get it to come up. I put in the correct code of
http://mms://192.168.1.100:8000/ in my html code stuff on my website but still can't get it to work. If you wanna check it out to see what I am doing wrong go to my site and click on the American Flag. Then view my source code to see if its right. I tried it many different ways even w/o the http.....

Thanks!

The problem is that you are referencing a computer on your LAN, not a computer visible to the internet. Since we are not members of your LAN, we cannot listen to your feed.

1. What you need to do is (using the computer that is running Windoze Media Encoder) is go to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com

2. Then record the IP address you receive from that page. Then in your mms://192.168.1.100 html code on your website, replace the 192.168.1.100 with the recorded IP address from step 1.

3. You will probably have to forward port 8000 on your router. Refer to the instructions that came with the router to accomplish this.

4. (Maybe optional at this point) Lastly, if you find that your IP address changes frequently, you may want to sign up for a free DNS redirect at no-ip.com or another similar site.

Hope this helps.

ok, I did that before (whatsmyipaddress.com) and stuff. anyone on here try it now to see if it works. My neighbor has tried it before and couldn't get through on the changes. Maybe he doesn't know how to refresh his snail ol.....(aol)

Nope. Still can't get through.

See Step 3. I am not the WME guru, but I think you just have to forward this port, but perhaps others as well.

Step 4? Is your IP address still the one you linked to? Has it changed already??

The other, probably fairly unlikely, but still possible, is that your ISP blocks many of the available ports. It has happened to at least one person. If you are forwarding the applicable ports correctly in your router and your IP address is still the same, I would call your ISP and find out if there is a block on port 8000.

We need to know if you have a static IP. If not go to no-ip.com Then make sure the encoder is pull from encoder. Also make sure the port it is using is free and nothing else is using it. Also make sure the router forwards that port. Be sure and use the link mms://your.ip.here: portnumber. It will only work with the http:// if you directly put it in Windows media player. Also check if you have any antivirus software or internet security software and check the settings in that to make sure the port is open. Also in windows xp, check the Windows Firewall settings and make sure the port is open. Check this stuff first then let us know.

I'm on broadband, a cable modem. The encoder does show differently than when I go to myipaddress.com. I have put in both but I'm going to check the port to see if it is open or blocked.....

Proxies? how would I do that?

Plus I have McAfee Firewall. I looked to open up the 8000 port but it's not listed.....
I guess I have to add the port to open it. But I don't know what to put into the other fields for incoming and outgoing TCP/IP and UDP ports.....
The closest thing I have listed in the ports is web server port 80

The address that WME listed was also different than my actually ip. It lists the computer address. since your not on a network, that address is no good. since you go through a ISP and a cable modem the ip will be different. As far as the port thing, I'm not very skilled in that area. All I did with mine is add the port, it didnt ask for TCP/IP or UDP ports.

Maybe someone with a little more knowledge on the port situation will chime in.

The TCP(/IP) protocol for port 8000 is all that needs to be forwarded in the ROUTER. I am not sure what router you have, so please check the manual or any online help available for your specific router to ensure that you are configuring the port forwarding feature properly.

My router gives me the option to forward TCP, UDP or both. TCP should do the trick.

Once you are confident that the router is correctly configured, perhaps try temporarily disabling the McAfee Firewall and see if your neighbor or anyone else can connect. If so, then the problem may lie with the software firewall (McAfee). I am not a McAfee expert, but ensure that Windows Media Encoder has full access to the internet, escpecially TCP port 8000. Once you are sure that is properly configured, then turn it back on.

If it works great. If not, don't forget to ask your ISP if they are possibly blocking the port you want to use. Some do.
