• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a code plug that has worked great for over a year now. Then I recently open the plug in the CPS and changed a digital frequency. Now that channel longer transmits correctly. I tried changing other different frequencies and had the same result. However, any digital frequency that was not changed still works correctly. Does anyone know what is going on, or how to fix this problem?

This is a common problem.
The root cause is that the codeplug was built under version X software, but then loaded on to a radio that is running version Y firmware. CPS and firmware must always match.
So when you update the firmware, you must also update the codeplug with the same version CPS software. And you can't just load the old copdeplug into the CPS software and send that to the radio and consider it 'updated'... you have to 'rebuild' the codeplug by exporting everything, starting a new codeplug and import everything.
This is a major problem of sharing codeplugs. Someone receives a codeplug and has no idea what version firmware it is compatible with, and consequently runs into exactly this problem. Unfortunately this is just the nature of how things are with these sorts of complex software driven radios.

Thank you for this information. I believe this exactly what happen. So, if I export a brand new code plug from the CPS to Excel, then import my current information from another Excel file, then import everything back into the CPS and then finally write the new code plug to the radio, in theory every should work? Am I correct on that?

You don't even have to import to excel. Just do the following steps:
1) Load your existing saved codeplug into CPS (latest version you have)
2) Go to Tool > Export, and save the file with a unique name
3) Figure out what MODE or band the radio is presently set to. Use menu Model > Model information. Under Frequencys you'll see a MODE number. Write it down.
4) Copy down all your Optional Setting - take screen shots or write it down by hand. This information isn't backed up by an export from step 2, unfortunately.
5) Start a new codeplug. Use menu Set > Set Initialization
6) Confirm the new codeplug is using the same MODE band from step 3. Use menu Model > Model information. Under Frequencys you'll see a MODE number. Make sure it is the same number you wrote down in step 3.
7) Now use menu Tool > Import and load the unique named file you saved in step 2.
8) Input all your Optional Setting from step 4.
9) Save file, preferably noting the version of CPS software you're using in the file name.
10) Reset the radio by holding PTT and the button directly underneath it while turning on. Confirm the reset. Once done, write the codeplug to the radio. That's it.

This process is called 'rebuilding' your codeplug, and ensures the entire codeplug data is freshly created & consistent with the version of CPS & Firmware in use. It needs to be done every time you update firmware version in the radio. Otherwise, it should be good to edit, add, etc any channels or other changes you want to make without this rebuild process.
