Hi all, I have been hosting the Montgomery Co Fire feed for quite a while now but unfortunately seem to have lost good copy on the system since my move to my new house. I also assume they're going to switch the Phase II at some point and it will get even worse.

Is there anyone in Montgomery County who would like to provide the fire feed and has solid copy on the system?

Thanks,
-Charles

Thank you for your efforts to provide feed up to now. One question I have is have you tried receiving the Simulcast Channels in Fairfax? ( Im assuming you have been listening to Montgomery County’s Moto Smartnet 800 Mhz. 7A can be heard on 154.16 and 7B is 153.950. The VHF Simulcasts have worked well in Northern VA. Well enough that another license holder in VA periodically complains about 153.950 being heard and conflicting with their use. There is talk of moving to another VHF freq for 7B. But the good news is, I am being told, VHF is not going anywhere in the forseeable future. Its a necessary band for many areas, like the Great Falls area which is busy for water rescues, for example. Also it is Important as well as for the Countys Minitor pagers.

Also, and I have a good source within the County, P25 Phase II is still close to a year before completion. Now as radio geeks, we know that we may see/ hear testing but the real deal is quite a ways off. I just bought a Unication G4 and found this out a bit late.

And if you already know all this, maybe this lil tidbit will be of interest to others. :sneaky:

Ok, thanks for the info. I was aware of the 7A simulcast but not 7B. I see someone is already providing the a feed for those channels though, so there wouldn't be any value to changing mine over. I could just drop mine and see if someone steps in, but I prefer to transfer the existing one over rather than start a new one with a new ID.

That's for the info though, good to know. It's all news to me.

I choose to take it down because I was getting a lot of negative audio complaints. I can't do anything more to improve reception, so I just took it down and hopefully somebody in better range will pick up the flag and start a new, better, feed.

It's not hard. You just have to have a computer and scanner you're willing to use for it. In a nutshell, you hook the scanner to the computer with an audio cable, and then just install and run the free software.

It just needs an audio input and a pretty stable network connection.

i used to host the DC Fire department online, i havent done that for about 10 years though. i just bought a few new SDS200s so therefore i have a couple 996P2's and a 536 that can be dedicated to MCFR for a dedicated feed. I have a couple computers that can be dedicated to the 24/7 task as well...

i am wondering if i use one computer, i can put the MCFR broadcast into the line-in jack, then say if i wanted to broadcast MCPD also i can put that into the MIC audio jack and run 2 instances of scannercast? basically running 2 seperate feeds from one computer, or can i only do a stereo type setup, 2 scanners but on one feed (which is not what i want to do, obviously i want to keep the police/fire depts on 2 seperate feeds, using one computer). i dont mind doing this, i have all the equipment, and am familiar with the know how to broadcast, just not 2 feeds on one computer obviously :p we can figure this out. I also have a business line internet connection at the house, so this wont be an issue whatsoever.

if there is interest, ill finally clean off the old desk and hook everything up in no time. if not, all this stuff will collect dust

I'd love to see them hosted again. I've never hosted before so can't really help with those questions. I agree though that separate feeds would be the way to go.
