Just wondering if anyone listened in on that while they were searching for the officer. I was sleeping so didn't catch it. Lot of mystery surrounding his death.
Where in Arizona is this? Didn't see anything on news sites.
Thanks for posting that. I'll have to listen when I have access to my home computer since streaming media is blocked at work. I didn't hear anything because I don't currently have a digital scanner. I learned about the incident the next morning and I'm waiting anxiously to see what the report will be. A lot of unanswered questions right now and it's disturbing that he was working out of South Mountain. With the things going on there lately I worry someone may have been 'taking revenge'.
On a slightly different note...apparently there is a DPS officer 'missing'. They haven't been able to reach him on the radio and nobody seems to know exactly where he is. I've only heard 3 transmissions regarding it so I don't know a whole lot. Hopefully this has a better outcome.
I didn't hear about the officer found in the hotel room. I'll have to go looking. Very sad. There was nothing on the news last night about a missing DPS officer and I never heard anymore transmissions so I can only assume nothing bad became of him.
The whole thing with Sgt Drenth really has me scratching my head. They have information from his GPS and computer logs and such, but yet they're offering a reward for information regarding his death. On the one hand, it almost looks like a suicide because they say he was found with his shotgun on his chest, but as my mom pointed out, why would his gun be several yards away? She said maybe he stopped because he thought he saw something suspicious and I told her they drum Officer Safety into you at the academy and if he saw something suspicious he shouldn't have exited his car without calling it in. I don't know. You might be right, though. We may never know the true story. And yeah. I feel bad for the families, too.
That is the 64million dollar question...But nothing was called in, so why was he out of his car?
That is the 64million dollar question...
I hadn't heard about the handcuffs.
I did some research and found this article on AZcentral.com from five days ago. Here's a piece of that article:
"A source close to the investigation, who asked not to be identified, says Drenth's body was found 20 feet from his patrol car in an alley near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Jefferson Street and 19th Avenue, and that his uniform was dirty and his handcuffs had been removed from his holster. The GPS vehicle locator was turned off, which the source says is unusual. Members of the department's homicide unit were meeting on Wednesday to go over details of the report."
