it's true that the aspr7490 needs to be tuned, but it is still advertised to have a bandwidth of 24mhz on vhf and 100mhz on uhf with a vswr of not more than 2:1. i'm sure the vswr is probably closer to 1:1 at the tuning frequency so that's pretty nice. just think, one antenna will work very well transmitting from something like a motorola cdm1250 which comes in two uhf bandsplits, 403-470 or 450-512 and cover the whole band. no matter which radio you had, you tune the antenna for the middle of the road (436mhz or 481mhz respectively) and you get the full bandwith the radio is capable of. the vhf is not as complete but pretty close. a vhf cdm1250 is capable of 136-174mhz. tuning for 155mhz should give a 2:1 vswr from 143-167mhz. not the whole band, but probably good enough for 99% of situations. i'm in the process of getting a couple of these, i'll let you know how good they are compared to how they're advertised.

I used two of the Antenex wideband antennas on my old truck; a CWB1443 and CWB4405C. I thought they worked great, personally.

The CW(B)1443 or CW(B)1503 sound like what you need. They work across the entire band without cutting the whip. The SWR across the whole band is less than 2.0.

I am an authorized Antenex dealer, so please let me know if you have any questions or want some more information on any of their products. When you are ready to order just surf on over http://shop.waltel.com.

Thanks,
Jeff

Actually, I don't need one anymore. I was just asking as a referance. If I ever do the FF/EMS thing, I may use one to cover that & 2mtrs.

Thanks again everybody
