Hi All.

I have an SDS100 and live in Baltimore County, MD. (Kingsville zip code 21087)

Does anyone have an HPE/HPD file of ATC or other Air comms that I could load onto my scanner to listen to Air Traffic in my area?

I can't recall how to load such a file, but I think I just copy & paste onto the scanner favorites?

Thanks for any help/guidance.

Planes coming into Fallston use 122.9 to communicate with each other. There is no tower. Your closest major airport would be Martin State. I have an Excel file that would be very easy to paste into a hpe favorites list file for you to import into Sentinel.

Here is the Excel file. I included the Fallston Airport, Harford County Airport, and Phillips Army Airfield at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. You will want to put an avoid on all of the ATIS frequencies. They are continuous transmissions giving airport conditions. You will still be able to scroll to them on hold. You can put each airport in a separate department and turn them on and off using quick keys.

Here are hpe favorites list files for Baltimore and Harford Counties. Save the attached zipped files to your computer and extract. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Import from hpe file (Favorites List). Click on New Favorites List and name it: Baltimore Co MD Click on OK. In the Downloads folder, open the extracted Baltimore Co MD.hpe file. It will appear as a favorites list in Sentinel. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Import from hpe file (Favorites List). Click on New Favorites List and name it: Harford Co MD Click on OK. In the Downloads folder, open the extracted Harford Co MD.hpe file. It will appear as a favorites list in Sentinel. The Baltimore Co MD file is set to scan the Parkville and White Marsh police precincts which cover the Kingsville area. All of the precincts are programmed. I will give you information how to turn the precincts on and off using department quick keys. The Baltimore Co MD favorites list is on FL quick key 1. The Harford Co MD favorites list is on FL quick key 2. To toggle a favorites list on and off, press its FL quick key number followed by E. If the FL quick key numbers are stripped when you import the files, I will give you instructions how to enter them. Are there any other county favorites lists you would like?

tvengr,

Do you ever listen to the commercial air traffic? Are you able to pick up transmissions between planes and BWI Traffic Control?

I see the commercial planes coming is to land all of the time, and wondered if the are listenable?

I lived in Detroit many years ago, and was close enough to Metro Airport to hear the traffic. It was surprisingly interesting.

I usually do not monitor air traffic unless I'm at an airport. Make sure your squelch is set at 2. From your location, you should have no problems receiving aircraft while they are approaching and departing the airport. You probably will not be able to hear aircraft on the ground at Martin State but you may be able to get the tower. A good outside antenna will definitely help reception. Are you using the stock antenna on the scanner? Your location has a lot to do with it. When I was in Baltimore City, I could receive the tower at BWI using the telescoping antenna on the back of my scanner.

Yes, I'm just using the stock antenna that came with the SDS100.

Thanks for the info..... I"m going to play around with the scanner to see what I can pick up as far as Air Traffic.

The LiveATC.net site has been very busy and very interesting.

I have been listening to it constantly and it comes in so clear.
