Just wondered if anyone knows how soon we could be seeing P25 phase two?

The reason i ask is, i am torn between two really good scanners, the uniden HP1 and the soon to be released GRE PSR 900., I know the 900 can already cover the second phase of P25, but i wonder if uniden is working on a scanner that can also cover it .

Just dont want to purchase something in the future, that can wind up in the pasture if you know what i mean,

Maybe this is a good question for UPman, if he wouldnt mind giving out info, about a forthcoming scanner without giving the competition too many details.

Thanks to everyone who responds ahead of time.

The 900 is a base, mobile scanner, it hasnt been approved by the FCC yet but it will be soon i think

Whats really cool about it is it has a detatchable face.

You can see a pic of it on universal radio's website.

Just wondered if anyone knows how soon we could be seeing P25 phase II.

Since the state, KCMetro, Wichita, Topeka and Lawrence areas have all just completed or are building phase I systems, I would be very surprised to see a phase II public safety system built in Kansas.

And just to add to the confusion, P25 phase II has not been established by the FCC yet so there is no way of telling A) when it will come out and B) when any scanner will come out.

Sorry to barge into the Kansas section uninvited...but this is not correct. The FCC has nothing to do with establishing P25 Phase II TDMA, it's a standard written by APCO and published by the TIA. The P25 Phase II standard was officially adopted and published in November 2011, and there are already numerous live systems on the air operating in Phase II TDMA mode.

As far as the PSR-900, I wouldn't hold my breath that it'll see the light of day anytime soon, given GRE's current situation and uncertain future.

Well, Lawrence/Douglas Co. already has a 440 MHz. TDMA ham repeater. Personally, I won't be using it since in order to do so I'd have to buy a Motorola radio, there being no ham gear available for that mode.

Bob, WoNXN (sticking with standard FM, thank you very much.)

GRE America was shut down. The PSR 900 is not going to be out anytime soon.

Ummm NO. GRE Japan's scanner manufacturing plant was shut down.
GRE America is still alive, and at least somewhat well, and attempting to aquire the rights and a facility to resume production of GRE scanners. No small task for sure, but that is their publicly stated intent as of right now. Of course as with anything that's certainly subject to change.

Yes there won't be a PSR 900 anytime soon, if ever, until the above mentioned hurdles are overcome.

Right, maybe I didn't say it well enough, I was on my phone but effectively they are shut down until they can get the rights to make the scanners for them selves.
I know they are trying to resume production but until they do they there will be no new scanners.

Well we can say this Toyota and Nissan & some Honda's are made in the States so why not G.R.E.

And i wouldn't think the County & City is going to change from a system that there all ready set up to Use is going to a change that far in game the Cost would be to much and i would say they probably only have so much federal money to work with..
