I've been following all the threads about how Whistler is currently MIA, but when I had a chance to pick-up a WS1095 for cheap, I couldn't help myself. Of course, I never thought to ask the seller what CPU version is was... OK, lesson learned.

So now I'm trying to update the CPU from 1.1 to 3.9, which is the current version. Whistler has the files on their download site, and the DSP update worked flawlessly sans the Whistler app. The CPU update however, doesn't even start--and I tried many combos of compatibility settings.

Does anyone have a special technique or some knowledge of how to do the CPU update without the Whistler app. Otherwise, why would they have bothered to put it on their download site? FYI, I was able to get the scanner into "reception mode" by pressing the MENU key and plugging in the USB cable--I just can't figure out how to get the CPU updater file to work.

Many thanks,

Thanks for sending me the updater... I deleted the version that I downloaded from the Whistler site, but I still cannot get the file to do anything... it doesn't open any further dialog boxes, unlike the DSP updater, which basically walked me through the update.

I've tried the update with the Whistler programming app on and off--it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've also tried just placing the scanning into code update mode--no joy. I can see the port open on my device manager, and it's the same port that opens when I write to the scanner, so I don't think there's a conflict.

The main issue seems to be that the CPU updater file just does not start when I try to run it.

Update: the problem seems to have been my Win 10 laptop... I took @tvengr file and copied it over to my tower PC, and the Updater worked just fine, prompting me through the entire update.

Thank you @tvengr for always helping folks out!

One more thought: Did you possibly try running the updater without extracting it first? I've been known to do things like that. I believe the apps on the Whistler site may not have been zipped previously.

No, I made certain to extract the zip file... the only difference was that I just moved the file you sent me over to my tower PC instead of trying it on the laptop. Both, the laptop and the PC are running win 10, so I cannot explain the difference. Strange, but very happy it all turned out!
Thanks!

Yup—it’s the only way it’ll let me run most exe files. I’m going to check to see if the version of Win 10 is pro vs. home or something that might explain the difference. I’m at a loss to explain it.

Both systems are exactly the same edition of Win 10 Pro, same version, same OS build, same experience (whatever that is).
