I monitor I-Calls here in Howard County and often hear local police talking back and forth. I say it makes up about 5% of the total traffic that I hear.

I have problems monitoring I-Calls on SAFE-T. All I get is control channel noise on the I-Call talk groups. It got so bad I had to turn the I-Calls off on my 396. IIRC, the Pro-96 doesn't pick up I-Calls.

I do get some I-Calls on the Hamilton County system, but they don't seem to use those a lot.

I do get quite a bit of I-Call traffic on MECA.

It's not a control channel - just digital communications between towers. Lock those out and you don't need to turn off I-Calls.

So you are saying that if these are locked out, you will be able to monitor I-Calls on SAFE-T? Have you or any others actually monitored an I-Call on SAFE-T? Thanks.

Yes. No - not been there enough. But it has worked on other systems I monitor, and that's how the radio was setup.

Lots of I-calls on the Tippecanoe Co System 1. Mostly analog on VFDs relating to non fire activity. A special note on the I-call numbers. They directly relate to the VFD unit numbers. As an example, Wea Twp unit 420 will I-call as 750420, Battleground unit 720 as I-call 750720, etc. The digital I-calls are various other gorups like Medical and City and County administration.
As for I-calls on the Dist 14 SAFE-T, so far only the data bursts, which get locked out when I catch them. I have not heard any voice, analog or digital on SAFE-T site yet.

To date, no digital Talkgroups on the Tippecanoe Co Public Safety System 1. No public information has been seen either.

Can someone explain what an I-Call is?

An I-Call is a private conversation between two parties (talkgroups) on a trunking radio system. Others on the trunking system can't hear the conversation; however, certain scanners like the Uniden BCD396T can monitor I-Calls. I believe both Motorola and EDACS trunking systems support I-Calls.

Ok, IC... I think that is what my dad uses at his work, They use some sort of Early Mot system, and I've used it before you type in a like 3 digit code that corresponds with the other radio you want to talk to...

Just didn't know the name of it.

Update :: I have been monitoring at least one digital talkgroup on the Tippecanoe County Public Safety System ...

The LPD is always complaining about having radio problems, I figure it wont be long and they will all be going to digital.

It is my understanding that I-Call use is very limited on the SAFE-T system due to past abuse by users. I used to get a lot of control channel type noise when trying to monitor I-Calls. However, I have not tried monitoring I-Calls since the latest 396 firmware upgrade.
