Anyone other than me thought about this?

Anyone thought about doing scanning somewhere other than your home? I'd like to attend some football games, just to scan...

Or any events...

Or, since a ham can legally have a mobile scanner, packing up a bunch of scanners and doing a steak out is a big city and scanning that citys stuff...

Just some thoughts....

That is something I've been doing since I entered the hobby over 25 years ago.
County Fairs, Festivals, Parades, Races, baseball, football, you name it I ususally
bring along a scanner. Sure sometimes you have to be more stealthy with it than
others depending on the venue. Just use a little bit of caution and some common sense.
I have never run into a problem, even with my forays into Indiana and Kentucky.

NoPic... get your ham ticket and increase your odds of being successful.... there are a number of places on the internet where you can study for the test.... I have been doing this for 30 years and have only had a couple of run-ins with those who wondered what I was doing....

This has been done for years and years. We have a couple of guys here in Virginia that do this on a regular basis, and often post thier findings on the Virginia forum.

Take your scanners to sporting events, shopping malls, air shows ... where ever you think there will be radios (which is almost anywhere nowadays!).

I attended a WKU Foot Ball game last fall and took my scanner. I really had a good time. I listened to all knids of stuff on the open business bands. It was really interesting, I listened to; venders, ticket, parking crews, and the people that conducted the half-time shows and other things. All in all I would do it again. It was nice for a change from the normal Police, fire, EMS stuff.
