Just wondering is there anyone out there that monitors any radio communications in Vermont? Not much action here in this forum!

I listen to Vermont communications all the time, Fish & Wildlife, State and local Police, Fire and a whole lot more. You would never know when the neighbors Cow gets out if you didn't have a scanner.......

I am glad to see someone is out there that listens to Vermont besides me. What area do you listen to? I monitor the Addison County area (Middlebury, Vergenes, etc..)

Regarding my other post on the Vermont Forum, do you know of any tactical frequencies?

Listening to Scanners in Vermont

YES SIR! I personally listen to scanners. I live in Barre VT. I have recently even set up an online scanner through http://www.capecod.net and there is another online scanner located at iwww.incidentbroadcast.net that is entitled "Upstate New York" located in Washington Co. NY which covers parts of the Rutland area. I also believe that there is a third online scanner devoted mostly to aviation in the Burlington area!

Therefore, there shouldn't be any excuses that a person doesn't have a scanner to listen to reports that the local cows have gotten out or that there is an accident on the local roadways, etc. :p

It might not be as busy as NYC or other metropolitan cities but we certainly have a few interesting incidents to warrant having fun listening -- don't we guys!

Listen to them on a regular basis due to the close interaction between Washington County NY and the department's in Western Rutland and Northern Bennington County (most Fire Agencies not disptched by state dispatch are dispatched by Washington County)

I listened to VT PD/FD freqs while I lived in Rutland County

There is not a whole lot of action on the channels usually, But when they did get something big it was very cool to be able to hear it and see it first hand.

Cool.

For the life of me I can not find the "Upstate New York" scanner feed at the incedentbroadcast website.

A lot of interesting stuff in my area - upstate northeast N.Y. or the so called Champlain Valley.

I liked listening while I was up there in Rutland County, I was involved with the Local FD and Volunteer EMS squad while I was there. I was running a ICOM I2100H as a scanner and as my Ham rig with a KLM? 2m antenna and a Radio Shack CB with a 102in steel whip antenna and also my station issued Radio/Pager.

Speakinawich - does anyone know what happened to all of the Shoutcast feeds? There used to be about 40 of them. Now Winamp only sees 5!

The correct site is http://www.scancapecod.us and the feed is available at the New England Scanner Feeds Teamspeak Server, located at nescannerfeeds.no-ip.org:8005 . Wallace's feed covers the Central Vermont area very nicely.

I just went to the incidentbroadcast.net and I saw in the bottom "NY - Upstate NY (RM)" which is a PART-TIME online scanner on the left side of the screen. If you click on the left side, you will see "You will also be able to hear Vermont State Police which are dispatched out of Rutland VT." I am sorry that I didn't add that sometimes these online scanners run part-time, but mine, absent problems with Charter Communications (like I had two days ago), I expect to keep this up 24/7/366!

I just finished putting up 40' a very old antenna specialists 30-50 & 150-174 ground plane that I had up at my mother's house in Addison Co. VT about 35 years ago! Boy-O-Boy what a job to cleanup and try to fabricate a tiny part (like a round threaded nut that somehow increases the outer diameter of the antenna connector (like a special SO239!) to mate with a PL259! I ended up coming up with a BNC female!

So for those of you that expected me down at the hamfest this past weekend, I wasn't AWOL. Just doing some spring antenna work. Next project is to take a few directional antennas to try to increase coverage towards northeastern VT and NH!

Can't we find people to cover the area around Addison County and the Southern part (that is not covered by the the aforementioned online scanner which I think is just the VT State Police dispatched out of Rutland? As I said, I have a 92 y/o mother in Bridport, but there is no high-speed internet there, only dialup, but there has to be others perhaps in NY on the other side of Lake Champlain.

Likewise there is a need for someone to cover the St. Albans/Burlington area.

As I said, Scott's system is FREE and is all volunteer. He helped me get my system up and running and I am sure that anyone in Vermont or NH or someone who lives elsewhere but can hear these areas would be welcomed. So guys, if you have a high-speed internet connection DSL, Cable, etc. dust off one of your old scanners so we all can hear what you hear!

Then perhaps those people who only listen sporatically will get more interested since they can have their local scanner(s) on and then tune into other parts of the world!

From where I am in the Champlain Valley of NY I can pick up quite a bit of Addison, Rutland and Chittenden counties in VT and Essex, Clinton, Warren and Washington counties of NY. I would be glad to set up a feed from here. I would just need direction and help on how to do it.
