Wow, is it just me or is this crazy? Even at the highest price I've seen in the States it still converts to under $700.00cdn. Add in shipping and customs for another $100 maybe, and you still save $150. CRAZY. There must be some inflated distributer fee that they can't sell them more competitively.

I hear ya!! I just looked at e-bay and for around $520 US. you get the scanner wich converts to around $625 Canadian. I checked for shipping and taxes and it still well under the $900 there charging. The sad thing is I bought a alinco DJ-X200 from them and they gave me a good deal. I think If you go in person you might get a better deal on the BCD396 model but don't count it THEY ARE HOT off the press.

Ordering any sort of a radio from Canada is nuts. I own about 10 radios, and not one of them has come new from Canada due to the stupid high prices charged at the retail outlets. Radioworld and Durham are both just as bad. I remember years ago when I first got my BC245 from Communications Electronics, I figured it out and even with paying a premium for FedEx Air overnight I had saved over $200 from buying it from either Radioworld or Durham!

When I wanted a unblocked wideband, I found it even cheaper online in Japan. I got it for about 1/4 of the price Durham still wants NOW for the radio, and it came shipped from Japan in less than four days!

And yet that price will not dissuade some people. I'm sure they would
rather die satisfied with the latest and greatest toys, than be the richest person buried in the cemetery.
Who are we to judge how someone spends their money though ?

Thank goodness we have choices on where we can buy from... and that means spending our dollars South of the border.

The number of analog voice channels left on the cellular systems out there are rapidly disappearing. One provider in northern Ontario shut the rest of their analog channels down a couple of months ago.

Expect the rest to follow suit within a year.

Out here on the prairies where digital is NOT pervasive, you still pick up a crap load of analog cell even in town. Of course it is all boring as crap and more of a annoyance than anything else...

I check out the BCD396T at Durham Radio to-day, nice unit and a good price too. It is only 799.00 and they are in stock! The price I got from a U.S. store was 539.00 U.S. on sale plus 25.00 shipping plus 1.2 % exchange rate plus import duties ?? and GST and PST.

DURHAM RADIO HAS THE BEST PRICE AROUND THIS AREA AND THE BEST SALES STAFF TOO.

CEI sells them right now for $520, which (as of 10 seconds ago), is $627.80 Canadian, and includes shipping and no custom brokerage fees as they ship by Fed Ex Air (in most cases you will receive it within one to two days). You only pay GST.

I don't know where you are from, but in my books, $628 plus GST is much less than $799 plus GST... your mileage may vary.

Then again, if you have the cash, and they have the radios, go for it. It's your money, but they most certainly do not have the best price around on the net.

Oh Jeez :roll: lets not get started on that again. They are about the only ones down in the States that will not ship to Canada. There are plenty of other US dealers more than happy to deal with us Scanner Addicts up here.

I thought all stuff coming from the "US" has to have import duties paid by the purchaser which is usually the same as our PST and GST and a courier will also charge you handling fees - you may get the bill in a couple of weeks from the courier.

If you have your item shipped via either UPS or Fed Ex (much better) and use their AIR service (don't use ground EVER, especially if you want to get the radio in a timely and cost effective manner), the customs and brokerage fees are included in the shipping price. Usually (I have eleven scanners/radios, only a few of which were bought locally here, the rest were imported), you then only have to pay GST (or PST if you are in a province that charges it).

For example, my BC245 when I bought it new cost me almost HALF of what it would have cost to buy it locally or from Durham radio. My Alinco DJ-X3 was a FRACTION of the price it would have cost me in Canada.

You'll still pay PST and GST (or HST in the Maritimes) regardless of how it got to Canada. The couriers will charge you brokerage fees (their cost of handling the paperwork for getting the item across the border). Next day air has that cost buried in the total price. Canada Post is the cheapest but also the slowest. Take your pick.

But the savings can be substantial. I bought a BC780 a few years ago from Bob Grove and even after exchange, shipping and taxes it was still over $100 cheaper than buying locally.

I only mentioned that because he said that you could order from there, and NO I was not going to get started on that again :roll: .
Sure there is lots of dealers out there that will support you. I know of 3 that are fantastic dealers and people to place orders with.
