Anyone use POP25 on Motorola XTL?

Has anyone used the over the air programming on Motorola XTL radios, and have any thoughts about how it functions (as well as costs). I had thought it was an option for trunked systems only however the Motorola flyer says it works with conventional systems as well on XT*2500. We are conventional and have about 200 radios county-wide, so I could see it as a real time saver.

From what I know about pop25 it works extremely slow and you will be tying up channels for a long time trying to program radios with it.

I haven't actually done it, but attended a class on how to do it. Didn't appeal to me. Seemed very time consuming, and the sexiness of the over the air programming concept was not so appealing when you have to deal with the logisitics of running down field users, telling them to turn their radios on at a certain time, waiting for it to finish, etc. Not to mention the expense to enabling the radios to have the feature.

Don't waste your money. Very Slow process. Needs to be monitored constantly and many failures sending the programming to the radio. Sometimes needs to be sent 3 or 4 times before it sticks.

IDK if it's trunking-only but it's slow as a dog from what I have heard. It works by transmitting the full codeplug to one radio at a time, for each radio.

The largest use I have heard for it is the Alaska State Police system where some folks are so far out in the wilderness it's not worth it for the techs to go out to reprogram the units.

POP 25 is a TRUNKING ONLY feature. However if you have conventional modes in your TRUNKING radio, you can POP 25 those changes.
Yes it is somewhat slow, but speed depends on system activity. If there are a lot of Ptt's on the system, POP 25 will suffer. If you plan to utilize a POP 25 session it best to wait for your slow time.

POP25 has been supported on conventional starting with SR6.12 in 2008 (ASTRO25 R12.00.00)
