I'm really new to scanners/amateur radio. I ordered an R20 from
Universal Radio last week and have had really bad customer service
support from them. They never sent me an e-mail receipt, when I
called about my order they said it was being held for the "check to
clear" even though I paid on the internet via credit card. And the two
times I called back they were very vague on even knowing what I had
ordered! Have any of you experienced this kind of service? They seem
to be the biggest internet retailer out there. Maybe I should've paid
the sate tax and shopped locally.

BTW, I still haven't recieved my radio!

Thanks Mike, I see you are in Ohio, do you go directly to their store or order through the mail? I recently made a few avionics purchases from two internet retailers, one in Florida and the other in California and both were on my doorstep in two days with almost immediate commincation as to the status and tracking of my order.

I guess I'm just experiencing a "blip" from Universal and I will wait to see how it's resolved before I pass judgment on them for future purchases.

Although I have never had to call them, I have ordered a few things from them and have not had any problems. I would be willing to guess if you let them know you weren't happy they would do all in their power to help you out.

Yes, I think I might do that now. I just checked my credit card statement online and they haven't even billed my card yet so that means it hasn't even shipped. :(

I've done both and always had good service when I've ordered from home.

I actually just got off the phone with them. It seems the guy who does their internet orders was in the hospital and my order was lost somewhere on someone's desk. They're on it now and will ship it out ASAP. I knew there had to be a logical explanation.

Universal Radio

I have ordered from them since 1992 many times and have always had very pleasant experiences. Some prices might be cheaper elsewhere but the customer service has been very good.

I actually found them to be cheaper than almost anyone else. Do you have any other retailers you can recommend?

Universal Radio is super! I've done business with them for over twenty years, and never any problems! Several of my friends would say the same.

Let us know what you think of the radio when you get it. I've been tempted by that one myself! :D

Will do.... I'm also, most likely, going to purchase the Uniden BCD396T when it comes out.

Universal is one of the best out there, but anybody can have an "off" day. Glad you got it cleared up.

That's kinda what I thought. I just wanted to get a feel whether or not anyone here had a similar experience.

Update

They finally shipped out my receiver and they shipped it via UPS ground. I find that kind of odd, since they knew how badly they screwed up, you'd think they'd make it right by upgrading to overnight or 2nd day air. On another note, I ordered some frequency books yesterday afternoon from Scanner Master and they're already at my house! I think I'l be ordering my Uniden 396 from them when I'm ready.

Same for me...I just got a Diamond RH77CA from Universal. It was back ordered and as soon as they got them, I got an email with tracking number and in 2-days had my antenna.
