Depends on what you listen to.

1/4 wave works well for repeater systems at altitude. Higher angle of
radiation.

5/8 or 1/2 wave works well when you want to listen to things at the horizon.

Antennex are decent antennas. I use them on our command vehicles.

It's good for VHF, it's a 5/8 wave gain antenna. It will work well even on low band, might be good for UHF as well and you might not even need another antenna for 800. I've had 5/8 wave antenna hooked up to scanners and they work good across the spectrum. And if your dual band antenna is about 18" it really won't do all that bad. My NMO-/70 Larsen works nicely, not great, but nice.
