I've successfully used 32-bit JAERO to decode EGC aircraft messages on a Windows 10 PC, but I'd like to decode 8400 bps voice data, for which the 64-bit version appears to be required. I installed that, but nothing happens (except a momentary revolving of the "Windows toilet bowl") when executing it the EXE from the C:\Program Files\JAERO folder. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it at the C: root level; I also tried running as Administrator, and running the compatibility troubleshooter. Any other ideas? Is there a Windows log somewhere that might tell me what's (not) happening? As far as I can recall, I've never encountered this from any other application before, and unfortuantely the software is provided as-is, with no documentation (nor can I discover a WIKI or website devoted to this app). Thanks for any advice!

Either version should work fine on windows 10 64bit.
Ensure your java installation is up to date and is the 64bit version (you must have a 32 bit but it's possible you haven't got the 64bit one - you will need that for 64bit java applications)

JAERO is not a decoder for Enhanced Group Call messages so I am not sure how you have got the 32bit version to do that?

As well as the contact page which Mike has given a link for Jonti has a page on his website devoted to the history and background of his decoder software as well as links to the latest 64bit build and actual git repository should you wish to build from the latest commits.

I appreciate y'all taking time to respond, but apparently no one read my post carefully. I stated, "the software is provided as-is", because the author made clear that he will NOT provide assistance. Obviously I know where the web page is - that's where I downloaded the 64-bit (latest build) version. And I didn't claim to decode Enhanced Group Call messages using the 32-bit version - I made it clear that I need the 64-bit version to do this.

The suggestion to ensure that I have the latest 64-bit Java installed sounds fruitful - I'll try that.

There is a reflector on groups.io for JAERO - likely as not you would get additional assistance there, if you need it...

Seems you also didn't read your original post carefully either - You specifically stated you had used the 32bit version of JAERO to decode EGC (despite Enhanced Group Call being a maritime service and not decoded by JAERO) and that you couldn't find a website devoted to the software ;)

I didn't do anything specific to get JAERO to work on windows 7 or windows 10
In my case insatllation used the last 64bit version to D:/..../JAERO rather than Program_Files but that shouldn't matter as the default installation will use /User//AppData/ for data. Into the installation folder I put my own compiled aeroambe.dll
I run it from a set of shortcuts to give ten instances fed from ten virtual audio cables

Subsequently I renamed the orginal exe and compiled my own version with some changes (though the orginal is still present and still workls if it's used instead)

You could try running the exe through Dependency Walker to see if there are any obvious missing modules on your system.

on the computer go to settings, go to update and security, go to OS build info.
it should say this, 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.
if it says 32 you have a 32 bit machine.

I should have specified that I already determined that I'm running 64-bit Windows on an x64 processor. Anyway, I went back to the "latest builds" folder, re-downloaded, and now have 64-bit JAERO running! Decoded a couple of 10,500 bps signals off Inmarsat-4 F3 (I'd previously only decoded 600 and 1200 bps signals using the 32-bit version), and hoping to be able to decode 8400 voice signals (haven't yet been able to identify those; my SDR-Kits patch antenna may not be up to the task, so I'm considering upgrading to the RTL-SDR Blog patch - or better yet, building a helical).

i can tell you that going from the old 3x3 patch antenna to the new one from the RTL-SDR group = AMAZING.

I hear about 10x more signals with the new antenna. Here is a solid decode of a 10500bps signal.

it's currently in stock on amazon -

so this antenna will decode 10500 stock as it sits? what about 8400? i ought the blue patch antenna and it works great on 6 and 1200 but nothing on 10500 or 8400

My RTL-SDR patch antenna arrived, and I've put it through its paces. Yes, signals are much stronger using this versus the SDR-Kits antenna, and yes, I'm successfully decoding 10500 and 8400 bps signals :)

I don't believe there is any single comprehensive database of Inmarsat frequencies that's kept up-to-date, but check out INMARSAT frequency list update and https://uhf-satcom.com/satellite-reception/l-band

A much better source for what can be heard in the US is my post in RR at

Ok thanks but I really mean the database file for JAERO. If I click on download in settings / database it says downloaded successfully but it certainly hasn't...
