• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The CPS and process for programming this radio, changing bands, and updating the firmware is a colossal sh*it storm. The process sucks and is overly difficult. Errors upon errors. Hours spent reading forums and watching YouTube videos with no progress. I absolutely hate their CPS at this point. I now own a door stop.

special programs, hex editors, errors? what a waste of time

I do not have a 878, but I *do* have its mobile cousin, the AT-D578.

Programming that radio is a pain compared to a typical analog rig, but things like zones and scan lists offer a lot of flexibility too.

As far as the CPS? Yes, junk. I would highly recommend the RT Systems programmer as an alternative. My experience is that their DMR programmers have more bugs than the analog ones (things like the need to exit and re-enter a code plug after deleting channels or zones) but overall they work very well.

I had to download some other software to change the band to make the radio at all usable beyond the amateur band. Their CPS is terrible. Learning the Motorola and EF Johnson CPS's was easier than this. The AT radio itself performs well but I would not buy another one due to their CPS making me want to throw it and watch it slide down a storm drain.

I honestly cannot remember if I needed to run a "band modification program" on my 578 or not. I've had it for over five years and the memory isn't what it used to be!

But trust me ... the RT Systems programmer is much better than the vendor CPS. Of course if you think that would just be throwing good money after bad, I can PM you my address and you can send me that 878.

I totally agree. I absolutely hate the Anytone CPS. I did get the RTSystems software, and I don't regret it for a second.

Probably the same hardware, so the CPS is similar. The 878 and the DM32UV have the similar look. I used the program from the 878 to work out the DM32UV.
