If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anytone Anytone AT-778UV - Replace or fix noise?

I have an Anytone AT-778UV. I am getting constant noise. So interested in opinions regarding how to fix the noise, or if I should just replace it with a GMRS radio.

The radio is installed in my Jeep. Used offroad to talk to my group. Usually they are close, but sometimes further away (back at camp). I bought this radio so I could use it for ham and GMRS (unlocked). Though I haven't used ham frequencies in a while and seems that the trend is that most are on GMRS. Because of this noise, I end up turning the radio off and using my portable, which is a cheap ham Baofeng UV-5R.

I'm not skilled in troubleshooting. So might end up paying to have it fixed vs. just paying to have a different radio installed.

If switching radios, I want something that can have an external speaker installed because I have poor hearing. Though I assume most radios can have that done.

I am ham (tech) and GMRS licensed.

My antenna is the Larsen NMO2/70B. Not sure if this would need to be changed if switching to a GMRS radio? I like this one simply because it's already installed on my Jeep. It worked fine with my old Yaesu radio.

Noise video. Sorry about the jumpy video, filmed while driving offroad.

Check your antenna connection first, at the connection to the antenna and then the radio. It sounds to me like an intermittent grounding or separation and then "squelching" when it reconnects. If not the antenna connection, at least you have eliminated one aspect of the problem...

When the noise started, I did turn up the squelch to the max level hoping that would do it. Didn't help at all. I'll check the coax connector on both ends as suggested.

If you do swap out the radio for a GMRS only model, then get an antenna designed for 462/467MHz. It'll perform better than an antenna designed for 144/440MHz.

But I agree, check all your connections, check the NMO mount, especially where the coax attaches. Check the connector on the back of the radio. Check for damage to the cable where it passes through any panels. Check your grounding.
