Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

I have bought one of these radios and I cannot for the life of me get any of the programming cables to read it. I have a singular cable that works for my Kenwood TK8180, and I also have one of the 8 in 1 cables that reads baofengs etc ok. Neither of them read the Anytone 778 radio..... Do I have to use a specific cable or can these generic ones work? Please help, its driving me insane.

If the 778 is a digital radio you will need a programming cable WITHOUT the chip in it. I found that out with my 878 and KG-UVN1. It seems to be a straight through cable. No chip.
Good Luck and 73!

No, it's only Analogue. But I do know what you mean, I had a 878 and yes the radio itself had the chip in it to create a port on the PC.

I've purchased a cable for it, so it better work... Front programming these Chinese radios is a tedious task haha

As said, we're not at the stage where lots of these transceivers are using the microcontrollers USB interface rather than a more conventional RS232/serial connection.

As said you'll need a simple USB breakout cable to the plug rather than a "normal" K-type connector with RS232 translation built in. They're different things entirely although looking rather similar :)

And that's what I did, I've made a cable that works fine now :)

Nice work, I've done it with a few odd-ball CB radios with odd UART interfaces, I've also had do it backwards with one odd 11m radio that used a "USB Mini" connector but used it as a serial interface....
Welcome to "budget" radios :)
