I know AOR offers sales of their receivers in the EU. Contact them thru the AOR web site they probably still offer the power supply you need.

By the way, that's one great receiver!

Good little receivers alright. AOR managed to pack quite a lot of receiver into that case.
Anyway, to the problem at hand: the AR3000 / 3000a needs only a regulated 12 volt input. So long as you get a power supply with the unique AOR power plug on it, cut off the cord, and splice in your own fuse and connect to your own regulated 12 or 13.8 volt power supply. Linear regulated supply would be preferable to a modern switchmode regulated supply, which would cause noise on shortwave frequencies.

The 3 pin power connector on the AR3000 and AR5000 are 12V DC with the center upper pin not connected. There are bare power cords with connector on Ebay. Also same seller has a US 120V DC adapter for sale, and the adapter label has the PINOUT, see picture in auction.

Run all my radios of a Astron RS-35M 35 amp 12v regulated supply with battery backup that never gets turned off. Not sure how good the stepdown transformer works with a 120V transformer demand type unregulated supplies they had in the US

The same connector with 3 wires but the wrong color sequence can be found on some old credit card terminals.

Just got the first AR3000 that was bought back in 1993 and a friend now owns back to change the memory battery out, last done back in 1998. These radios keep on going ........

A step down transformer is more expensive than a new power supply. If you buy one from Europe it will have a 220/240v 12v push with it. Don't buy one from the states unless it is very very cheap. A 12v supply will cost you very little. If say, you buy one from the us, and it has a supplied 110v PS3, then buy a cheap 12v one from eBay for maybe £3, and simply cut off the plug and use the useless lead attached to the American one. Join them together and it will work.
