AOR AR-8200mk3 or ICOM IC-R20 .. advice ..

Want to buy a new radio receiver and I can't choose between the models as mentioned above.

The only thing for me that count's is receiving performance and build quality.

Hope that some users of these two radio's will give me some information so that I can make the right choice.

I own the IC-R20, as well as its predecessor, the R10. The R20 is an excellent wideband receiver with almost as many bells and whistles as a tabletop receiver. ANL/NB, AM audio filter, excellent receive capabilities. This radio is NOT deaf in any part of the spectrum I've listened to.
Be forewarned, if you like to listen to HF utility stations, like HF Aircraft, you will need a longwire to attach to the radio. The supplied telescopic antenna is worthless for HF utilities. I did find that the telescopic whip was adequate for VHF/UHF listening...but since I'm picky for listening to VHF/UHF aircraft, I bought an antenna specifically made for VHF/UHF Air. Pricewise, I think it's a better bargain than the AOR model. The Icom already has CTCSS/DCS built in; I believe you have to buy an add on card for the AOR.
In my opinion, go for the Icom. You won't regret it.

Go with the ICOM

I have owned both the AOR and the R20. I sold my AOR for the R20. As a die hard AOR fan you know you are getting an unbiased review!

I feel the R20's build quality is much better then the AOR, it feels very ridged and sturdy in your hand, especially in the battery compartment area where the AOR is lacking in rigidness. The numbers and letters printed above the buttons on the AOR easily rub off, this has not been the case on the ICOM.

The ICOM has duel watch feature, the AOR does not.
The ICOM has built in CTCSS and DCS, the AOR has an option for CTCSS.
The ICOM has a 4 hour digital recorder built in, AOR has a 15sec option.
The ICOM has an auto squelch, i like it!

There are many other things but these are the main points, you will not be disappointed with the R20, it is a much better receiver, has more to offer and costs less!
