No software we all need input to Butel to develop software.

I would purchase 5 of these Monday if it would only do trunking, particularly TDMA. Sadly there isn't a receiver on the market at this point worth purchasing at the moment as an all purpose vehicle receiver.

Right. I would purchase at least 1 of these Monday if it would even just display the slot, color code and talkgroup data that it is hearing on a DMR frequency it is decoding.

I hear you Dan. I had been really hoping that AOR or another high tier company would have something to fit the bill by now. Even at 50MHz and above there just isn't anything worth buying. I have a dispatch center, mobile command unit and 3 staff vehicles that still have BC785D scanners in them because no one has anything worth replacing them with.

Anyone know what the scanning speed is on this new AOR? And how is the sensitivity and selectivity. Is there much in the way of overload? I don't expect Uniden/GRE scanning speeds, but even my ICOM R20 gets about 20-25 per second, and my older TH-6FA, maybe 10 per second if I'm lucky on airband. I would hope the scan speed is somewhat reasonable.
I'm resolved to the fact that we are not going to get trunking on this new AOR. I don't even know about the DMR/NXDN decode data (whether that can be done with an update). If computer software were available for this AOR, I would consider it. That is really a drawback at this point. I really don't feel like programming in hundreds of stations by hand. I too would hope Gommert at Butel would look at this, but the demand may not be there for him to spend the time. I would have thought AOR would have at least some basic software to use, but guess that is not the case.

One other question. If the slot, color code, and talk group data are not displayed, is the radio even looking for this digital information? My impression is that if a radio hits on a DMR signal but can't decode that data, it won't open up with voice. Perhaps I am wrong. I thought this was the problem with CS-700/CS-750, you can only get DMR stations that are set up in your codeplug, so scanning other DMR stations would not be possible. Perhaps I am wrong. Anyone with more knowledge on this issue, I would appreciate your comments

Steve i know nothing about how DMR works, however if this helps i was running dsd + side by side with the AOR.

my test was local TRBO school bus freq conventional and TRBO trunked system freq programmed in conventional mode.
The AOR heard everything the DSD plus heard(well too much the data stream after each TX)
I be getting with TAKA from AOR USA next week on the DMR issue.
I keep all posted on what info he tells me.

Since so few systems use the DMR trunking standard in the USA, that would be an almost useless feature. I bet your local system is using MotoTRBO trunking which is proprietary and can't legally be included.

MOST two-way radios are programmed so they will only decode on the programmed Color Code. You could do the same with CTCSS/CDCSS, too. Just remove the CSQ option in the radio.

It's also possible to allow decode on any Color Code or TG. It's just that nobody has implemented this yet AFAIK.

I'm not too worried about DMR trunking, I am speaking about trunking in general - particularly P25. Don't get me started on MotoTRBO...

CSV File Back Up to SD Card

I am unable to back up the memory channels, scan groups, etc. to CSV files on the SD card. I perform the steps in Section 5-2 on page 30 of the manual up to step 5 and then nothing happens. I do not get the back up menu shown in step 6. The manual is terrible, so perhaps there is some secret another owner has stumbled upon to allow backing up to CSV files.

Likewise when I create empty CSV files on my PC and load them on the SD card and attempt to restore data from the SD card nothing happens. I follow the steps of Section 5-3 on page 31 of the manual up to step 8 where I select one of my empty CVS files and press Enter. Nothing happens. I expected the RESTORE ERROR BAD CONTENTS file because my files are empty, but the AR-DV1 does not even attempt to read the CSV files.

One huge omission in the manual is that it never states that the SCAN key toggles the mode between VFO, SCAN, and MEM read modes.

You are correct. With the CS700/CS750, you must have the Frequency, TG, T/S, and CC added to the codeplug to be able to monitor/scan. You can't scan DMR stations without first having this info.

There is also a SD card capacity limitation with some scanners. I use max 32GB with a Uniden BCD436HP.

The limitation is apparently a theoretical or support limitation, as my 436 has been using a 64GB card for about 6 months. It's not technically supported by Uniden, but so far it seems to work fine.

Thanks Sibbley. So my next question is then how does the AOR AR-DV1 do this without the same information? Or does it decode the same info, and the problem is just that it is not being displayed. If it indeed can decode that info, then I would think a firmware update could be written to display that info. But if it does not decode it, how can you scan DMR. Am I missing something?

I am interested in buying a DV1 but i'm not sure about listening to the data at the end of DMR every time. I would say AOR would need to fix it before i would buy. The video that was posted showing this was very informative, good to know all these things. I'm in 2 minds what to go for

Hello,

It is much like P25 scannners that receive P25 without TG and NAC information. The AOR can look for proper sync, determine if it is voice, and extract the voice information. The codec handles a lot of the voice processing, so the receiver only has to gather the right bits and pass it on to the codec.

It will be interesting to see what the remote command set looks like. On the ARD25 P25 decoder, the TG, SI, and a few other data fields were available via the serial port on back.

It is a interesting receiver, but I have quite of few already.
