Icom R3 will do what these do, and they can be found used for well under $200. Whether they do as well is a good question, but I suspect that a good antenna is the key.

I had an R-3 and regardless of antenna they are totally deaf above 900 MHz.

Read the reviews on them and you will see that just about everyone who has one agrees. That's why I would like to see some reviews on these other two units.

Yes, on another thread I did mention a review posted on "Strong Signals" in which the writer expressed the opinion that compared to the R2 it was somewhat deaf. Still I would have thought that a good antenna might help with that some.
