I just was able to pick up one of these new for a decent price. I sold my 8200MKIII for the DV-10 but the DV-10 had issues and I dumped it. I am getting re-familiarized with the 8200. As far as I can tell, with the new select switch on the side, you can use voice recording OR CTCSS OR P25 while scanning but not all at the same time. Does anyone else own this quirky receiver and can shed some light on this? Thanks.

I use to have a AR8200MK3 had it upgraded to digital which became the AR8200D. You can only use one mode of operation at one time if my memory serves me right. Everything has to be set thru that control switch. I found when you set it to receive P25 the radio would receive digital but if you had any aircraft frequency in the mix while scanning you couldn't understand them. You can only set the radio to receive digital or analog transmission but not both together.

My mistake you can receive both digital and analog transmissions together as long as you are in NFM mode and not AM mode.

They integrated the external option cards to the internal of the scanner but didn't redesign it to be able to use all options together. So the switch just enables one function at a time the same way you had to switch option cards on the other models. They didn't include the voice inversion option?

Copy that Ubbe. I still love the analog receive and large display of this receiver. Large alpha tags. VHF/UHF air, rail, my local PD and Fire/EMS. US Park Rangers near me are P25 non trunked and the 8200D decode is fantastic. I have my DV-1 for everything else but the 8200D does what I need it to do when I'm out and about. It's a great option for me. Thanks for the useful information.
