So I am thinking about getting a AR5700D if I was to get one off

These sets what can expect to hear in the 2 GHz and 2 GHz range.

I already have the DV1 .

I also observed the range up to 2 GHz with the ICOM IC-r 8500, but unfortunately I didn't receive anything useful.
I think the normal listener can no longer really hear anything after the 23cm amateur radio band.

As is always the case, the antenna system will be probably the most important part of your setup. once you get above UHF the PSDs in use are lower so a decent antenna with some gain will be important. If there are particular systems you want to listen to then go for dedicated antennas for the relevant frequencies and the best coaxial cable you can manage, possibly with LNA and filters.

Hi Patrol1949, How are you finding your new toy? Looking at one of these myself and wondering if it is much better on vhf/uhf airband than the AR5000, if you've had chance to try it in that frequency range?

Thanks.

Hi Alan all I can say brilliant DMR is exultant and it is very clear

The receiver really picks the week signals out .But dose take a lot

Of getting your head around it but it is fun learning all its functions.

I am over the moon with it.

When you get the device not found, leave your cable plugged in and turn off the 5700 then turn it on again.

Yes I tried that still no joy the PC will even load the drivers of the mem stick.

I am now going to reinstall windows 10 to see if that helps.
