Pretty simple. NMO base station kit secured to a PVC pipe. PVC is held b/w the bolt bolts by weight and gravity. It can easily be removed for antenna modification or complete removal. This is mounted in the attic. Antenna is TRAM dual-band(144/440) connected to a 996t. I was using the Larsen Special(150/450/800). I tried the TRAM dual-band for ****s and giggles. It improved my reception greatly, especially on 460mhz. Reception for repeaters/base stations is 35 miles and mobiles vary from 10-20 miles.

I'm liking it so much that I believe I might use the same concept for the residence where I am at..... I actually bought some PAR Endfedz for HF to place in the attic and your setup would be ideal for my base station tri-band antenna that I want to put up... I have "chicken wire" which is separating the different units in our building, but will use your idea for 6/2/440

Dude! You need to talk with your landlord about all that snow that's getting into your attic! :D

Nice setup.

Looks good! How well does it preform?

how does your landlord feel about it being up there? last apt i lived in, when the manager came during a maintenance problem he found out i had my antennas up in the ceiling and made me take it down. he told me i can't do that because that's public space and they have to stay inside my apartment. So i had three antennas cluttering the bed room with coax all over the floor for a whole year that we lived there because i couldn't have it all nice and neat up in the ceiling. and sorry no antennas of any kind on the balcony.

A hole drilled into an apartment ceiling can be covered up pretty quickly with toothpaste when you leave. In the apartment I had many years ago, I have full ham band coverage. Used a ridgevent almost 150ft long for HF, Was able to connect my tuner to one of the roof screws poking through.

For VHF and UHF I made some piano wire/so239 1/4 verticals for UHF, VHF and 220mhz and poked them through the roof, Used some roof cause to stop any leaks. The wire was so small you could not see them from outside but my signal was great.

When I move I left the antennas. There were there 5 years later when I went by. you really had to look to find them.

Tim, looks like we're both in CR. I'm on the NE side Your attic pretty much looks the same as mine. Send me a PM, would be curious if you're living nearby.

While I don't have quite a stable setup like that, I'd like to. Someone who did it nice like that would be of some great help, particularly if you have a nice long or a decent stepladder of some sort.

PM me when you get a chance.

Since the install, maintenance has came and fixed a water leak. Nothing was said. I also have a antenna mounted outside for a commerical radio. Hopefully I can get some pixs up tomorrow of the outside install.
