• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Actually iDEN and Iridium are VSELP, (different versions of VSELP).

Here's a quote from DVSI, the folks that developed IMBE.

* OPTUS
* APCO Project 25
* IRIDIUM
* ACeS
* ICO

Here's a disassembled Iridium sat phone that mentions an IMBE codec.

I'll have to dig for the iDEN specs ...

Note: I'm just trying to get the correct information "out there". N_Jay remarks made me check my sources. That keeps me honest and I appreciate that!

... and it's a good thing he did!

I did a search of Motorola's website look for an intersection of "iDEN" and "IMBE". I found zero documents. I did another search looking for "iDEN" and "VSELP". I found this very obscure reference buried in a list of iDEN specification documents:

Product # 68P81129E15 titled "VSELP 4200 BPS Voice Coding Algorithm For
iDEN"

So .. looks like iDEN is indeed VSELP. :oops:

ITS SIMPLE SET YOUR PRO 96 TO 96 MODE AND PUT IN FREQ THE SCANNER WILL KICK OUT THE ID"S REAL SIMPLE............
IF U CAN"T DO THIS YOUR A MORERON!!!!!!!!!!!!

As opposed to a LESSRON?

Whatever you're smoking, it must be good. Anyhow, the point here is reducing interference. If the current digital scanners had a setting where you could instruct the scanner to only stop on specific channels if they were tranmitting a valid, unencrypted digital signal, you could eliminate any interference you might get from pager signals, analog trunked systems, cell towers, etc. Setting your scanner to "96 mode", whatever THAT is, will still not eliminate the interference.

The original poster wanted to take that concept one step further and have his scanner only stop on a talkgroup if the agency of interest to him was on that talkgroup. Kinda like limiting the county dispatch system to only hear calls for your area, not all over the place, which would be a really cool feature! I get what he's trying to do, but there's no way the current scanners will do it. Maybe the "TrunkTracker 5" series will do that, who knows...

But hey, we do have some lovely parting gifts for you, including a lifetime supply of pantyhose and a coupon good for 10 cents off your favorite cat food. Thanks for playing!
