• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have programmed a Type II 800 MHz into my BC-250D scanner using the control channel only method and selecting plan 1 as the plan type. The problem is that the audio is distorted and broken up at times. There are brief moments when the audio becomes clear. I am very close to 2 of the transmitting sources, so I have used the attenuation feature on the two channels that have the control channels. That has not helped with the audio quality. What else can be done? There is nothing in the 250 manual that mentions audio quality and how to fix the problem. Is this going to be the way that I receive the system every time?

That did not tell me anything at all, as the digital card is installed and enabled.

Page 76 topics: what is Apco Project 25, how to install the digital card
Page 77 topics: how to turn on/off the digital card; precautions for installing the digital card.
Page 78-81 topics: Remote Interface

I have only 1 scanner, so remote interface is not applicable. The digital card is already installed and enabled, so that is not applicable. The system is Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface with a CT of 97.3

Where on those pages is there any discussion of how to adjust the audio quality?

Page 78 starts as follows:

With each APCO Project 25 system, particularly at 800MHz, the sound quality (C4FM Demodulation Threshold) may need to be fine tuned for that specific system. If the scanner is not adjusted correctly, the P-25 voice transmissions will sound robotic or unintelligable.

The 'Remote' portion starts on page 80

If you like, I can e-mail you the manual, which is in PDF format, from the Uniden website.

Now I have identified a problem with my manual. This is why I wasn't able to find the information. I have the original manual, and it does not state anywhere in the manual how to adjust the sound quality. When I look at the manual online, the information there. Perhaps Uniden forgot to include this information when the manual was printed. I'll try the audio adjustment and hope that works.

Thanks for all of your help. Now that I know there is a discrepancy with the printed vs. online manual, I'll keep the online manual bookmarked so that I can refer to it later.

In this particular situation, the audio needed to be adjusted upward for better reception.
