APD Cruiser stolen, as paged

AURORA - A man stole a police cruiser Saturday night then led cops on a foot chase after he caused a car accident.

Police say the man stole the cop car at the 12-hundred block of East Park Lane off Peoria.

The suspect had been at fault in an accident just before that. The driver ran from his car, the officer chased him, and the suspect doubled back and took off in the officer's patrol car.

Officers and K-9 units searched the area for the suspect.

Police say he is a 5' 8" Hispanic man. He was wearing a red and white shirt.

There were no injuries at the original accident scene. The suspect had been driving a stolen car.

wow.... I can tell you long ago we had one of our patrol cars stolen by a nude lady.. we thought she was a rape victim but she TOOK OFF!!! with our police car... leaving the patrol office dazed and his left eyebrow was twitching.

A small town village department where I lived had a guy steal a cruiser, left the officer along side the road. The village chief caught up to the guy, got on the radio and ordered him to pull over, he did. Said he just wanted to see what it was like to drive a police car.
