I really can't say much about the digtal age of commuications.

just about at times the digtal singal can be affected by the weather like servre storms
it happens but really a digtal converter for your scanners , why they do for tv why not scanners
I think the digtal singnal is not all great there are still bugs in it. not everything they come up with not work right.

the gre psr 310 scanner will until i save the money for a over priced digtal scanner.

The Apollo spacecrafts transmitted in analog, so any stellar reflections you are trying to catch 40 years later will also be analog, not digital.

Don't understand why some gone digital, for what? because of cost?
I think the digital market is nothing but vampireium of money .
it don't take much to block digital signals .
Digital is just phase of life that will soon be short lived..
I think in these digital scanner there is a digital converter bult in , the high price is a front for making more money,. the digital scanner is really a analog scanner with a built in digital converter
i think cost of $400 to $500 is part of the cost of the converter put in the scanner
most electriconics tvs radios now use a digital converter
the us FCC give out coupon for digital converters..

I believe he's referring to a local radio establishment with the name "Apollo Communications."

Listen, no one is making you buy a digital scanner. Apollo Communications was telling you a FACT that you will not hear a whole lot in the Phoenix area with an analog scanner. No one at Apollo Communications is involved with a grand conspiracy of trying to make you buy a digital scanner, they are only trying (and failing) at making you a more informed customer. In the end, they don't care if you buy an analog scanner.

Since you seem to honestly believe that digital is some sort of conspiracy to get money out of you (and like to point it out with every single post you make), I'll try to explain this the best I can seeing that many others have failed. Digital is just a concept of encoding in 1's and 0's much like what most electronics do today and what many things are being designed to do in the modern world. For radios digital refers to A LOT of formats that encode audio, and the idea of digital has been around for longer then you know. Take modern music for example. Music has been digital for decades now (CDs, mp3s, etc). Analog music is back in the ages of vinyl records (don't see much of those anymore). I haven't seen a single indication that music will be reverting to analog anytime soon.

Yes, digital is a phase of life. Most modern technologies are and people just have to accept that. You don't see floppy disks or brick phones anymore. Heck, people toss their iPhone 4S to get a brand new iPhone 5 because of how technology is these days.

Digital Television converters are cheap because of the general appeal and simplicity of construction. Digital scanners are somewhat low demand and require a lot more engineering and therefore could even be considered "specialty items." This is like saying "Oh, Ferrari a scam because you could take a Ford Fusion and add a new engine to make it run the same." You're missing a whole lot when you say that.

If you believe wholeheartedly that digital scanners simply have a television converter, I'd like to see you mod a television converter and post your proof on the forums. I'm sure many people would love to be able to do a $20 mod to listen to digital radio transmissions.

Engineering as a whole (including radio communications) have moved into the digital world, and it won't be leaving anytime soon. If you believe it's a scam, then why buy a digital scanner? You can still listen off of your smartphone from a volunteer who has already paid into this massive scanner conspiracy. And if you didn't know, some analog scanners can be modded to listen to digital. You can find it here: Digital Speech Decoder (software package) - The RadioReference Wiki

I have to give it to you Spitfire8520, this is by far the best analogy for digital systems I have read, I think everyone should be able to understand it the way you just explained it.

Still way too much to pay for digital scanner, only best way to get 1 is on ebay a used 1.
if anyone has a digital scanner new than they must be rich.
I can see the price of digital scanners is not going down because they retailers and electronic shops
are selling them like hotcake and thier making good money on the digital craze

A lot of people buy new, a lot of people buy used. Yes they are expensive, but if you want to listen in then you're going to buy one. I got a digital scanner for $300 new on SALE, I wouldn't have gotten it for full price. I'm going to go back to my Ferrari analogy, you won't see a new Ferrari drop too much in price because it's a specialty item. I wouldn't expect to get a brand new Ferrari for the price of $15,000 because that is not how the world works. If that's how you want to think, well then that's how you choose to think.

I got my Pro-106 NEW from RS for $350. They then gave me several deals for cables and chargers, ect...I got the Scanner, a programming cable, car and home chargers for around a total of $435. I also got 2 adapaplugs for free!

I think an advantage to buying new is the fact that you get a warranty. I had an issue with my scanner a while back, I took it to RS and they gave me the stuff I needed for it, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

In my opinion the warranty is worth $100 bucks, because if your scanner breaks, they'll fix it for you! That could cost $100 easy anywhere else!

Also, I'm NOT a "Rich" person.

I think too, that buying on EBay is risky. I must have looked at FIVE scanners on EBay, and ALL of them turned out to smell fishy! Thats why I decided to buy NEW!

The cost of "400 or 500 dollars," is unfortunately a lot of dealer fees, copyright fees, licensing fees, and all that stuff. Take all that away, and there's not much left...
Next time you buy a computer, ask the man how much of that $350-500 is ACTUALLY the COMPUTER HARDWARE! It's not gonna be all of it.
Assuming you are posting through a computer, it probably cost you about that much! I don't understand what your issue is with the scanner market. They are like any other electronic item. iPhones, computers, iPods, iPads, ect...cost more than what my scanner cost!

What's the deal???????????????:confused::confused:

I'm looking at getting a digital scanner. Not too much of a rush for me because I can still listen to the areas i always have, just want to listen to additional areas. I probably am going to just wait for a new one to come out and go from there. I'm not afraid to shell out $300 to $500 for one. They are quality pieces of equipment. Worth every cent. Honestly I would even pay more for one that has even more features. And like you said, ebay is kinda "iffy", I would much rather prefer to buy new and pay a bit more to have the warranty and know exactly what i'm getting.

Well digital scanners are in high price tag these days and it don't look like they be going down in price,
I figure there some other police stations some where in this state that use vhf and uhf.
If in time I can save $50 each mounth for high price digital scanner,.
right now the $400 or $500 your paying for that spiecal feature in that radio that uses solid gold contacts
in the scanner.
and for that price you be better put it in the safe so one don't steel it.or have theft insurance on it.

I hope you guys are not in crappy nieghbor hood
$400 or $500 can buy a lot of illegal drugs pot , cocane, meth name it.
to a drug user they will steal it

Yeah im not planning on ebay. Like I said, I think im going to wait until new ones come out. Im in no rush to get a new one. I dont need a digital one, it would just be adding Saratoga County for me, and I will need to get an antenna to put on my roof if I want to pick them up because of the distance. Its not big rush for me so I think I will wait until new models come out(Phase 2 and some other features). I would prefer to buy a Uniden one because thats the same brand of my other scanners.

I did not say anything about collecting them. I have 2 scanners and a pager. Thats not a collection. And they arent that that expensive. They have the features I want and like how they are setup. I personally use Uniden for my scanners but would try other brands as well
