Greetings,

I've manage to reuse old equipment to make it all work. This is my mobile station and I got it working this afternoon. I've notice things; my radio's fan now starts. Usually on listening only, the fan didn't start until I PTTed, but now it's running all the time low speed. My position shows on the Nuvi 350 screen, but I don't think Byonics has the garmin codes to display incoming on the Nuvi. Yet, I'm happy with this achievement. I wanted to display stations and have the possibility to smsgte but looks like I'll be on the hunt for an OT3 tracker from Argent Data.

I consider this minor achievement unlocked. yay!

Plus this low key setup isn't a beacon to thieves to break in the car.

Cheers all, holla if you have questions...

Things I have noticed;

I need to put a filter somewhere, I hear the car engine in the speaker of the car. That wasn't before. Also, the TT4 has some smartbeaconing that stops from sending position when static I think.

Question, my HT have a Wide1-1,Wide2-1, yet my mobile TT4 has same setting, but when I look at aprs.fi, my mobile gets pickup up by the 50mile away digi, while my ht get picked up by the 30 mile away digi. Anyone can explain? I have changed the mobile to wide1-1,wide2-2 and see results.?

I'm puzzled. I thought I had this figured out.

The APRS device that gets your position report into the APRS-IS, which sites like aprs.fi use to display reports on their maps, is known as an iGate. A digipeater just repeats your signal and doesn't have an Internet connection. Sometimes, digipeaters and iGates are combined into one station.

The position reports seen in the APRS-IS, are based on a "first reported" concept. If the station 50 miles from you has a better Internet connection than the station 30 miles from you, but the 50 mile station isn't hearing the signal from your handheld, but is hearing the signal from your mobile, then it's entirely likely that both stations hear your mobile signal, but the 50 mile station gets it into the APRS-IS first.

mmmm....

I understand, what I find odd is that the HT was only picked up by the 30 miles on years of data; connection was spotty/intermittent at best, but great within 20 miles.. That's 5 watts of course. Now, same area obviously, the mobile get picked up by the far one also, but the connection is also intermittent, that's 50 watts, but gets picked up by also the 50 miles one, I would have expected a strong signal to the 30 miles one and get reported by that one, and maybe the other one. My only though was the path I used, but they were the same. :unsure: , Others in the area seems to have a continuous good connection. My antenna is sidebonnet mounted, maybe the plane is off a bit but should be picked up by a lot nonetheless.

I'm just puzzled and trying some config. Maybe the Frankenstein setup I made do some conflicts or interference.

Looks like VE2IHS-9, your Byonics TT4, is mostly being iGated by VE2PCQ-3 and occasionally by VA2LGT (which is just on the other side of Highway 10 from you) or VE2RAW-3.

VE2IHS-7, your Kenwood TH-D72, has only been heard twice, once by VA2KK and once by VE2RAW-3.
