• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have this 1500 on the bench. Main power applied....power on manually to "APX1500" then it goes off, or dark, one of the 2.
Tried to apply ign power...radio does not come on, and power button yields the same result.

Haven't played around with too many APX mobiles......just the portables.....I gotta be missing something stupid..

Do you get an FL01/90 before it shuts off and/or does it fall into Maintenance Mode? If yes, some sort of hardware error where the head is booting but the RF Board isn't (and yes that can happen in a dash mount). If the answer is no on both, then as said above, sounds like it could have been inhibited.

No...have no answer yet. The radio does not get to the point where it tries to connect to the system. Flashes APX1500, then goes dark. Does not connect to the computer. hit the pwr button again and same same. No response to ign power applied. Have to hit the pwr button.

AN or BN model?

If AN, I've seen some with corrupted firmware before; rare but it does happen. You can look up the DSM and identify the FORCE_FAIL test point (6500/7500 you can use the MHLN6999/7000 option board and use the button on it, but it won't fit a 1500/4500) - ground that while applying power to the brick, and check whether it enumerates on USB using the J2 (rear trapezoid) connector with an OEM USB cable (aftermarket will not work).

If it does enumerate, your host firmware is bad, but the bootloader is intact enough to boot. That's a good sign, but cannot be fixed with publicly available software, would need to be flat-rated via Depot.

If it doesn't enumerate, you either followed the instructions wrong, or your bootloader is corrupted too, or you have some unrelated failure mode. Still would need to be flat-rated via Depot.

So really, officially it has to be flat-rated either way, but if you do the FORCE_FAIL test, then you can at least know what the issue is.

BN I've yet to see sufficiently-corrupted firmware on, they will usually stay in the bootloader if the host firmware is corrupted, and can be identified by simply using the J2 (rear trapezoid) connector with an OEM USB cable (aftermarket will not work).

If this is an agency radio, yes, just Depot it. Could try swapping heads first to be sure it's not a head problem, but if it's not an obvious issue, just make it Moto's problem.

If this is a personal radio, then there are further avenues you could explore, but the easiest (but not cheapest) route is still just sending it in.

Will it go into Flashzap? The rightmost button on the bottom row and the emergency button were both held down while powering up. Also how are you applying ignition power? This sounds like an issue I was having with a 6500 a few weeks ago.
