• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Handheld APX4000 has a mounting surface for accessories. Mostly used for connecting lapel speaker/mike.

The small steel octagon fits in the housing’s plastic octagon. The thumbscrew of the lapel mike screws into that steel piece.
It came out of the radio housing again.
Suggestions??? Epoxy?

What do you keep hitting it on? I see the contacts are messed up as well.

What should it cost to get the radio re-cased?

The PTT button is “high mileage” and when pressed, the radio chirps indicating loss of contact…then contact… over and over.

I'd try epoxy if this is a hobby use radio.

If it's a public safety use radio, get it recased. You don't want your ability to communicate depending on a gob of epoxy.

I don't know what it would cost.
You can sometimes buy after market cases, but they can be problematic. Swapping out the internals can be risky if you don't do it frequently.
If this is a radio used for public safety, get the agency to send it in.
If it's your radio for hobby use, then it is up to you.
Find out from your local Motorola shop would it would cost to have them do it. While it's there, see what it would cost to have them do an auto-alignment on it since it's a high-milage radio. You might be able to get a deal since it is there anyway.
Probably won't be cheap, though. New case might be expensive. Bench time runs in the $80 - $100 hour range.

Flat rate repair is the best option. They'll usually replace the entire housing, tune and align it and update firmware. As mentioned, since this is a public safety subscriber radio, it should be handled and serviced by an authorized personnel, none of which are hanging out on radio hobbyist forums.

Actually some of us do hang out on these forums, but having it handled and serviced by authorized personnel is the only acceptable option for an agency-owned radio. DIY repairs just don't cut it.

This is from January 2022, and has most likely gone up a little. $515 for APX4000 flat rate.
