• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know if I can use a ITA2000A tone remote adapter with a APX 4500 on a MIP5000 console? I am trying to replace a XTL5000 consolette without having to purchase a APX consolette or a ton of other equipment. Thank you!

Nope, the radio gets directly connected to the MIP 5000 gateway. You don't need a consolette, you just need an apx-7500 mobile to and the appropriate cables. Everything required is listed in the manual. You have to make sure it is a remote mount radio though.

Tech21 is correct regarding a remote APX7500 and a digital gateway. This will give you IDs at the console and basically act as an O5 control head for the radio. Both the MIP5000 and the APX7500 are end of life however and I was told by my Motorola dealer that MIP5000 parts are not available to order as of last October. However...

It can be done but it is not "officially" supported. My MIP5000 deployment I manage has an APX consolette connected to a tone gateway which gives me 16 channels, but no IDs. I also have two APX 4500s connected to local gateways through the rear 26 pin accessory connector. I had to make my own custom cables up to interface the radio to the local gateways. When using a tone adapter you will interface the radio to the tone adapter using the rear accessory connector and then the adapter will connect to a tone gateway via wireline just like any other tone remote setup. You will not get channel steering with an APX 4500, so if you are replacing a XTL5000 consolette this may not work for you. You will be limited to a single channel/talkgroup. This will only get you audio, no IDs off of the APX 4500.

we were able to take a UHF APX consolette, put a APX4500 800 in it, and by some miracle it worked. We don’t get IDs, but for a Solution that will get us by until our dispatch switch it will do.

I don't suppose you get channel steering with the consolette with the 4500? To my knowledge the 4500 does not support SB9600 like the 7500 and 8500 can do so you can't channel steer with the digital gateway or in a consolette with TRC.
