• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just bought a refurbished APX7000 radio from an authorized dealer for my volunteer EMS gig. It worked great on shift. Brought it home this morning and plugged the Impres charger in at the house, then dropped the radio into the charger. The green light came on once and then immediately went off. Tried it on a couple of outlets and got the same.

Here's the really weird part, and I've tried with both batteries they gave me. Both batteries seem to indicate a full charge. BUT... when I press the "BATT" button on my radio, it says "Smart Batt Data Not Available."

Any ideas?

Are these Motorola OEM batteries. What kind of charger (specifically the part number/firmware version)? What battery date code? More info is needed. I find it odd that both batteries exhibit the same behavior. Does the battery gauge display on the radio? How do you know they "indicate full charge"?

Motorola OEM batteries. Not sure the firmware version on the charger. Battery gauge displayed a full charge. And now that I've left the radio out of the charger for a bit, it's showing red and recharging, so it might've been a temporary glitch.

If they are new batteries, have you reconditioned them both? Allowed them overnight to recondition right?

If they aren't new batteries, it's possible that they are fully charged and they just need to be reconditioned and then it will show the smart battery data. This can happen if the batteries are charged and they just sit for a while.

Ok well update us when the battery finishes charging. Otherwise I would contact the dealer and see what gives. Maybe they can get you new batteries.
