APX 7000 Talk Permit Tone

So our company uses apx7000/7500 radios for communications and im dissapointed that they do not have the TPT enabled or at least I dont think they do. When ever we key up the tx light turns red and we begin transmitting. At random times when we transmit we hear the TPT. Im not very familiar with the apx series radios but is the TPT only enabled under certain conditions?

Many of us use lapel mics and we accidently key up but we have no idea were doing it since we cant hear the radio tpt.

TPT is only used on trunked systems.

It's there to indicate to the user that the radio has requested a channel grant from the system, has been approved, and is now transmitting on a voice channel for its requested talkgroup- AKA 'go ahead and start talking now, other people will hear you and you haven't been denied.'

It's not there for sat-on-your-mic warning or so people can hear the fun sounds.

We are on a encrypted digital trunking system. The tpt goes work but randomly.

If the talk permit tone is similar to older Motorola radios, then with the TPT DISABLED in the radio, you will still hear it under certain circumstances. If you quickly bump (stab/tap) the PTT, and the transmit is given the go ahead after your off the button, you would hear the TPT. If you were attempting to transmit, and the system was slightly busy, you would get a TPT after the system granted your talkgroup a channel. Also, if you were on edge of range, and the radio was trying to TX out, and you see the red LED blinking, you would hear the TPT when it eventually got its ack back and was granted the channel. Typically, you would not hear the TPT if you were keying into an open channel that had not dropped it's assigned channel yet.

Paul hit it right on the house.
Based on what your describing the talk permit tone is disabled. So each time you key the radio and it gets the channel grant first time it doesnt sound. If its a busy system and your radio takes several times to request you will get a bonk or the talk permit tone.
Same thing if your in a building and its having a hard time communicating with the system. Its a fail safe to let you know you had a delayed response after keying up.
If the radio techs enable it in the software the radio will beep every time you press the PTT.

Yes it is called Talk Permit Tone and it can be found under Radio Ergo in Features in the trunking personality tab in the APX CPS.
