• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Might try to redo the software refresh, or hit it again when .03 goes to distribution. If that doesn't do it, you're probably going to have to send it to El Paso. I've had that occur with a few radios, and a re-refresh has pretty much run 50/50 on chances of fixing it. If it doesn't, Depot is my only real option.

He posted on another site that he was using Depot at the time. Only a trip to Motorola will solve his issues now.

I was wondering that what Mike said because I had updated a couple AN 6000s with the same mace noted and had no issues going to latest available firmware.

The boot loader was a developmental version which is why I was having an issue

Question. I have a copy of APX CPS 17.01.01 and Firmware Files for 17.01.01. Before I firmware update my APX 8000 is the firmware issue still have bugs?

What are the best options for a firmware upgrade for the radio? I do not want to hose up my radio

What version firmware do you have? The problem I had was because the boot loader was a developmental version.

Whats crazy is that now when I read my radio from APX CPS 17.01.01 it crashes my computer and then re-boots.

I had no trouble with APX CPS 16 ever

My firmware version is 16.12

Uninstall it, ensure 16 is gone including the tuner or any other management software with CPS. Restart, then reinstall. Try to run it under a administrative account.

If this doesn't solve issue be sure you have enough hardware capabilities to run it. It gets more bloated everytime.

That's what I was thinking. I just wanted to ask several people out here if they had any troubles.

Also, I guess APX CPS 18 is out now.

So is rumor true with 18? About have to flash logged into Motorola server? Was just curious. These tools some have talked about wont work anymore to flash/upgrade. I heard more specific to new APX 8500 from Motorola. I think I got last batch before 18.

Hmmm. Interesting. I think Motorola might be moving away from people having Depot Software. I think you might be right moving forward with having to Flash/Upgrade your radio via online Motorola Server.

I think you have to be very careful when upgrading your firmware at this point with 17 and above.

Real careful. I got mine from factory and sent for alignment check etc to make sure all good and had 17.01.00 put in and all features. Two weeks later I get call not to go to 18. Something about maybe file format/structure was changed by Motorola with newer batches But don’t quote me on that. I don’t do maintenance or upgrades

Thanks for the update. I was going to firmware upgrade my APX 8000 but this will be put on hold for a while until otherwise. If you get anymore information please post it.

When downloading CPS 18 for APX its asking for a CPS extension for 31 bucks. Does anybody know about this? I guess the firmware might cost 31 bucks.

I conclude that the statement about Motorola attacking previously hacked radios is without merit until such time as further information becomes available.

Word on the street is v18 does exactly that:

A cut-out from APX firmware version 18 readme, says

Abstract: Hosted Depot Updates
System Platforms Affected: All
Special Configurations: N/A
Description: This is a strategic initiative to address the security and robustness limitation found with the usage of older depot tools. Blocks the older stand alone depot tool from updating new firmware and Flashport.
The older firmware will still have the issue, and cannot be changed, so the fix will only apply to new firmware versions in this release and beyond.
The old depot tool key was being copied and replicated.
