• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

APX 8000 Regulatory Compliance (NZ)

I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the NZ-regionalized manual for the APX 8000. I'm specifically looking for the regulatory compliance segment and any mention of R-NZ or RCM certification. I'm trying to navigate paperwork surrounding a few portables right now, and the North American APX manual makes no mention of certification/acceptance outside of USA/CAN regional relevance.

Other radios (Kenwood, EFJohnson, and Tait) all do have R-NZ and RCM marks on their labels under the battery, but no such markings are present on any APX radios tags (just FCC and EAC). I have on-hand. Codan calls out AS/NZS 4770:2003 in their manuals. I don't see any mention of foreign compliance in any Motorola documentation I have access to.

Specifically pertaining to info here: I've not been able to find a database of R-NZ of RCM compliance in the same way that FCC type acceptance information is publicly listed, but if that exists, that'd also be helpful. I can see that the 8000 is at least marketed in NZ, but I'd love to have some printed compliance paperwork to pack in with the radio as is suggested by customs.

Update to this: I've opened a ticket with Motorola about this, and will follow up when I have an answer.

Hey there, I suspect it won't have an R-NZ certification due to RSM reselling the 7/800mHz bands to cellular for 5G. You can, however, purchase it from a Motorola dealer like Mobicomm or MCS Digital Auckland. The suggested retail for the H91TGD9PW7AN - APX 8000 ALL BAND PORTABLE MODEL 3.5 - $5366+GST. They mention that the 7/800 bands are country specific. I suggest emailing a Motorola dealer for more information.

Thanks for the info - Motorola support in the US wasn't much help on this, so I may reach out to a Motorola dealer in New Zealand to see if they can offer information. Band enablement on the 8000 is done entirely in software (flashcode), so I'm assuming there is no regional difference in the hardware between regions. Thanks again!

According to my source, they remove the 7/800 band from the radio, so it's not software locked, but a hardware limitation. You can always try to order the radios, or find someone with a demo unit available. I'm not entirely sure who provides radios to FENZ members or other paramedics (Not St John - Radios are supplied by Dove Com)

The APX 8000 RF deck is not manufactured without the 7/800 band, there is only the one 4-band deck. Any band disablement on an 8000 or 8500 has been done in-software.

Who is your "source"?
Someone who works at a Motorola Dealer in New Zealand, however, they could be mistaken. He has said that they have only sold a handful of the APX8000 radios, and has not fully dealt with the radios. I have to wait until later this week to get a response from one of his technicians who programs radios daily, and can find out more to provide correct information.
