To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Correct me if I am wrong but the APX Series on digital trunking will only Decode the Digital QCII? I have the APX8000xe! Or will it by chance Encode Also? I been trying to figure it out, I have went in and setup my tones and when I go to assign the QCII to the Menu it will not come up after writing back to the radio. The Option was specifically ordered when the radio was purchased. If it will encode can someone assist me with the setup please?

You can both encode and decode in the APX line as long as you have the following option in the radio:

DIGITAL TONE SIGNALING

Reduce response time to an incident by instantly alerting

large groups of on-duty and

off-duty responders over their APX radio.

•Commonly used in Fire Rescue to alert first responders

to an incident by broadcasting a series of distinct, rec-

ognizable tones followed by a voice transmission from

dispatch.

• This allows an entire fire department to be simultane-

ously alerted to an emergency

situation, as opposed to unit to unit dispatch (Call Alert)

which takes longer.

• It allows the responder to keep their radios in a quiet/

silent mode until a critical alarm is raised.

• This feature works on P25 Conventional or Trunked

systems, providing digital quick call II operation that is

identical in operation as the legacy analog version.

•By 7.15.5, the feature will support encode from an APX

portable or mobile with a DTMF keypad.

Portables: QA09000

Mobiles: QA09000

Dependencies: P25 operation (Digital CAI)

I can send tones out on both my 7000 & 7000XE on both conventional and on Trunked.

The help menu in APX CPS should clarify more and if I get some time tomorrow I will try to record a video showing my APXs sending and receiving QCII tones.

Could that be the problem that the call/page under personalitys need to be enabled but may be locked by the lady that programmed it on our system. She got it setup on the 700system but left the rest to me.

Question for you all. I have tone signaling set up on my APX4000. I am able to encode on conventional without a problem but it won't decode. Anyone know what settings I need to have for it to decode? Thank you!
