• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I currently have an APX 4000 UHF2 and looking at purchasing an APX 6000XE UHF2. Can I clone the 4000 onto the 6000 or will I will need to program the 6000 from start?

Top node drag and drop. Open both codeplugs side by side. Left click and hold the top node of the tree of the donor codeplug, drag to the top node of the receiving codeplug and release. You’ll probably have some ergonomic errors when you do this. Fix the errors and you’re done.
If you have any trunking systems, you’ll need to load the system keys into both codeplugs.

For reference, in order to clone APX radios, both the model number and FLASHcode must match exactly. So not only can you not clone between different models, but even if you had two of the same model, one feature difference in the FLASH will prevent cloning. i.e. one radio has the 12.5 kHz narrowband mandate and the other doesn't = unsuccessful cloning

Thank you for answering this. Doing something similar but with 800 MHz APX4000's and going to APX6000XE's.

Recently used Migration Assistant to replace many XTS1500/2500's with APX4000's.

Then several local counties stated they were going P25 Phase 2 TDMA, so now getting FDMA and TDMA capable APX6000XE's, so glad to know drag and drop can work in this case.

My organization is supporting Maxtrac's and HT-750's all the way through APX8000XE's, and it is getting pretty wild and crazy with IT seeing our old radios, and management wanting to group us or replace us with IT. Then there are the little intricacies like programming radios from older codeplugs and looking for where drag and drop and/or Migration Assistant has botched or missed something. Lot's of fun and some job security though.

I work for a corporation that has private fire departments in 54 cities across the United States, but is ineligible for grant money being a corporation, so it comes with all the penny pinching of a corporation, and the bureaucratic constant of a public safety entity.
