• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm using the APX CPS Software version R13 and I'm trying to open a codeplug file for an APX 6000. I'm getting an error saying "Error reading file - Invalid file header format" does anyone know what the possible cause of this could be and how to resolve it?
Thanks!

You're 11 major versions behind (24.00.01 is out there now). Likely the radio was modified by CPS released since that version came out... (Around 2014?)

The latest version of APX CPS is R25.00.00, latest firmware is R24.01.00

The Invalid file header format message is a clear indication that the radio was last written with CPS >R18, where the structure of the codeplug changed.

Damn.... now to put the trouble ticket in to have our RM Server upgraded..... ugh... This is reminiscent of the ASTRO 25 v13-17 days... u know a new version every few days........
Im taking bets they will get to V30.xx by end of year! Gotta have the beta testers!

release notes for 25 say 26 will be out soon. Can't make this up. I'm sure MSI also does this to keep the piraters busy, as without a valid subscription in MyView one can't keep up with the weekly builds.

If they were concerned about that then they would simply set up a license auth server... because that type of scheme worked out so well with their Depot license control system since Astro 25 CPS R7.

I'm just happy to be analog with mostly older radios...if release notes can't justify an upgrade then it's not going to happen until one does. Too much other work to do than just keep upgrading RM weekly.
